We won’t be doing any releases for a week or two due to the holidays. We want you guys to have a stable build. These changes will be going out early January assuming they go through testing and are approved. I make no promises. I can’t always work on everything I want to or have it go out working the way I wanted it to. For example, I might need to change the StringValue limit or disable some features for a while. Priorities change all the time. There's always internal stuff that you guys never see so if nothing looks changed or announced in a release, that's probably way.

We also put new features behind a flag. This means we can turn the feature on or off from the server. If the feature is causing instability, we turn it off until fixed. Sometimes it takes a while to enable features because we turn one on and wait a bit before we turn on the next one. That's actually not a bad idea for you tech savvy builders. You can release an updated map with incomplete features that are disabled by a BoolValue.

I'm working on the holidays on my own time - I like what I do. No one tells me I have make posts and tell you what's going on. I want to. I want to help and give you guys a good experience. Some of these things I've done outside of work. Sometimes because they're not official tasks, just side projects, they might not get included in the releases any time soon. I know I'm not great at spelling or grammar, but I'm trying! I'm much better at programming. =)


Things coming soon:
• Auto Indent option in script editing – automatically adds tabs, can turn off. Added custom right click context menu.
• Comment/uncomment block of script text. Hit - to toggle comment of a block of text.
• Tooltips on toolbar buttons – shows the keyboard shortcuts
• Rotation Tool fixes
• Dragging part on terrain was losing initial orientation
• Camera can zoom very close to center of focused object
• Remove backspace deleting
• SDI – Single Document Interface – only one place will be open per Studio application. When opening additional places a new Studio will be run for each place.
• Increased StringValue limit to 128k (arbitrary limit for now). Property editor text edit control was defaulting to 32k text limit, not a limit with the system.
• Overwrite mode for script – hitting insert key will switch from insert mode to overwrite mode. Shows a big block cursor in overwrite mode.
• Reduced CPU usage when Studio is not in focus – slows rendering down to 25% if the application is not in focus. If the Place tab is not visible (switched to different tab, application is minimized, etc.) then the rendering is disabled. The Place is still considered visible if another window obscures it.
• Support for ShellOpen – first parameter is considered a filename if it exists. This allows you to double click on a rbxl to open, drag rbxl onto Studio.exe, open from the command-line, etc.
• New places automatically generate a simple baseplate
• Fix Statusbar showing the heartbeat FPS not the real frame time FPS
• Layout is saved periodically in case the application crashes
• Fix text not being displayed in Property View – columns can be resized and tooltip for property name
• Fix save paths – default save path is now “My Documents\Roblox”. Will not change existing default save paths, only for new users. The old path defaulted to the AppData\Local\Roblox directory which was confusing.
• Big One! Saving is now done in a two-step process. The first step saves to a temp file and the second deletes the original and renames the temp file. This means that if the application crashes or something bad happens while saving, the original file is not lost… unless of course the rename fails (not likely).
• Fix grid snap setting not saving
• Lots of internal optimizations to help with development such as speeding up a one line change to compile in 8s instead of 2m 30s.
• Tons of new shortcuts like U, I, O, and P switching to arrow, move, rotate, and resize tools. Plenty more, I just can’t remember. Suggestions welcome!
• Big One! Optimize rendering of many selected objects. As much as a x3 speed up in frame rate while dozens or more objects selected.


Things I’m working on:
• Uninstalling Studio 1.0 automatically
• Special download for 1.0
• Drill down command – holding Alt while moving/clicking the mouse will select a part rather than the parent model.
• Resizing models
• Multi-apply paint, material, etc when clicking buttons with a selection. Easier than clicking each object individually.
• Anchored/Locked/Grouped feedback on mouse hover over like an icon or statusbar text or something
• Dragger fixes (long list of bugs!)
• Universal dragger
• Top Secret Stuff!


Things other team members are working on:
• Ribbon bar interface to replace toolbars
• Partial downloads so it doesn’t pull entire copy down every time we release
• Streamlining our release and testing processes.
• Multiple releases per week. Almost there!


Stuff I’d like to work on:
• Fold/Unfold All script editor command
• Fix Shift+Tab in script editor
• Auto Format Text command in script editor
• Fix script path not saving
• Highlight dragger arrows/spheres on mouse over
• Auto backup
• Fix Toolbox not refreshing on login
• More progress bars instead of feeling like Studio “locked-up”
• Localization/Translation engine to support additional languages
• Animated camera when doing focus and home commands so it doesn’t just feel like the camera jumped all over the place. Hey, I just found out there’s a camera history! If you hit [ or ] it will go to the previous or next camera position in the history.
• Shortcut Help dialog that shows all the shortcuts
• Tip of the Day dialog

I'm going to admit, I have absolutely no clue what most of this means, so forgive me if I sound stupid... BUT,

The first one is a performance gain if you're running Studio, Server, and Client at the same time or have more than one Studio running.

The second one helps with situations where you run out of disk space or for whatever reason it fails to write to the disk drive. It will give you a second chance to save or clear off your hard drive first. It doesn't affect publishing, just corruption of files (I hope!).

Mac controls for the trackpad suck... works just like Windows.

Add pinch to zoom, and make it so two fingers (Two axis scrolling) allows you to control the camera.

Also you have to keep the backspace delete for mac, as theres no delete key.

We've decided to remove the backspace key but keep the delete key. Mac users or users with a Mac keyboard will have to right click and cut or clear to delete something in the Explorer tree. I think this solution is preferred to deleting scripts accidently. I do plan on figuring out a way to undo a script delete.

Please, Do make a multi-User Studio. Also can you re-add the Click-drag multi-select in the Eplorer bar like you had in 1.0?
And the Auto-hide Feture for the Explorer tree and Properties tab...
