The only part of african history that schools know is the trans-atlantic slave trade and ancient egypt. That is a shame

My social studies class taught me about South Africa, but that's it. That's the only country they mentioned. And all they mentioned about South Africa was apartheid and Neslon Mandela.

Oddly enough the corn husker(me, in Iowa) is taught about almost every country in Africa, and the ancient kingdoms.

We learned about Morocco, South Africa, Algeria, Senegal, Mali, Egypt, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and the DRC. That's all I can remember off the top of my head.

World History only deals with countries that have significance from an American perspective. Africa stopped being important when we stopped getting slaves from there. The remainder of African history is summed up in Black Hawk Down.

Well Benin could've been considered a threat to America, considering they were in the rainforest/coastal areas of Africa, which is now Nigeria. There's a country called Benin near it though. To the West, I believe. America wasn't used to traversing rain forests, iirc.

They don't teach us the history of africa because africa is a continent and the only history about it is how it separated from Pangaea.

In Geography we have learned about almost each country and its capital. In Culturology we have learned about the biggest empires. Enough for me. |

Well for one thing, iirc Americans aren't the best at traveling through rain forests.

I don't get to learn it in school, but I read about it or watch videos about the history of Africa at home at times, it's quite interesting. I think CrashCourse world history mentioned Africa a bit in a few videos.
