First of all, the mayan calendar did not account for leap years - so we would have died 2 years ago.
Second, it's just the end of the Mayan long count calendar. On December 22nd. a new long count starts.
And lastly, NASA has disproved all theories of the world ending.

The Leap Year is a part of the calendar system *we* are on.
The Mayan Calender is 5126 years and is easily extendable.
