| I'm having no trouble with the flash banner. GIFs on the other hand seem to mess up on my computer. |

I left it on overnight, and my browser was laggy. -___-
I thought it was a .gif at fist too. *Surprise* I mean, ROBLOX's website isn't the best, the game isn't the best, really, nothing is the best that it could be.
But it's better then everything else out there, otherwise we wouldn't be here. At least, I wouldn't be here.

Flash has still got some use in it.
HTML5 hasn't fully developed, and support for it isn't fully developed. For this purpose a .gif would work because they mostly used low resolution .jpgs for some images in the flash. It would work because it doesn't need the detail. I dunno, it's not that big of a deal anyway because it hardly changes computer performance, and it doesn't change the game in the least.

| I actually sent a massage to TobotRobot (since ostrich is offline) about the banner. On IE10, when you haven't changed any settings, it goes to IE10 standards, naturally. But this means the bar doesn't appear, and changing the browser mode to IE9 standards fixes the problem. |

pretty much any modern browser has HTML5 support. this is chrome, firefox, IE9+ (IE8 users need to upgrade or change), safari, and maybe opera. same with CSS3.

@Tenal
For that single feature, probably. But I think you're forgetting that ROBLOX is much more harder to develop for than your standard website because of all the things they have to do (webcaching, distributed computing, etc.) to actually get the thing to work.
Change is slow.

Eh... I've already seen something that is flash based that's better than the original flash and HTML5...
I think HTML5 is just a fad, and the hype doesn't have much basis. But I don't really delve into that.
As for GIFs, they seem to take time to process before they start working fully, so I don't think they are the best solution. It could take a minute or two before it runs smoothly. (Maybe it's just like that at school).

Well, what's so great about it? Seems like everyone on this forum agrees that it's the next greatest thing... but they already are developing newer things that outshine HTML5. Similar to the iPhone, it's just a hype.
The new iPhone 5 isn't much better than the last, and most apple users will say that, while at the same time it's not even the best phone on the market. Apple is still predicted to reach 1 trillion $ in value next year.
It's a hype, it might turn out well, but I don't see it revolutionizing anything. I'm waiting for the other 29 technological advances I read about that are coming out in 2013, and would change things forever, HTML5 wasn't mentioned.
One such innovation will actually render spy and undercover cop occupations nearly impossible to hold, (A need to conceal an identity, where any phone camera can tell the user exactly who you are within seconds).
They need to do that face change thing they did in Face Off.

If it's a fad, how did usage of Flash die so quickly? Granted HTML5 may not be complete or as powerful as Flash, it's still the beginnings of cool stuff on the web.
One trillion? Eh. Apple's been notorious for its horrible mapping client and unpolished products in general. |

Google maps is back, and they have now let other developers release products with the same functions as the Apple default apps. Your point?
Right now, there's only about 2-3 default apps you would use from Apple, on the iPhone. I think one is for convenience sake, so other iPhone users can contact you more easily, and the others include things like the clock...
Anyway, the $1 trillion value is not my prediction, but the same person who predicted it's recent rise in value is suggesting towards a much larger gain.
I wouldn't say that flash died quickly, I've still found people using it as the base of many things, such as games, etc... Flash and HTML5 can be used for videos, since they are not mutually exclusive. So some of it might have come from misinformation perhaps. However, since I am a chrome user, I might have troubles with HTML5 and videos, one solution is to get a Microsoft add on, but usually Microsoft products are sub-par.
Anyway, considering the Apple corporations massive value, and record breaking achievements, along with the millions who use their products worldwide, and their refusal to use flash on their products, there might be some reason for the decline of flash found in the growth of Apple. Tablets and smartphones are replacing PCs now. (PCs are used primarily by the gamer variety, that needs more powerful hardware). But even then, new advances in smartphone technology, such as the new frequencies for data transfer and greatly improved performance and battery lives might end up replacing PCs. (I also wonder how well the Steam Box is going to do).

In short, I don't think HTML5 is solely to blame for the decline of flash, and I don't believe that HTML5 is going to be very great at all. Especially in an age where technology advances so quickly. You could say Flash lasted so long because it was created so long ago. If it was created next year instead, I'd suspect it wouldn't last half a decade before something came up much greater.
Technology is advancing at an extremely rapid pace. The world might want HTML6 by the time HTML5 is finally settled in.

HTML5 is really being pushed I think, but it doesn't have any special capabilities.
Especially since browser support for it isn't very full range. I think only IE10 and latest Chrome support it really well. Possibly one other browser I forgot... |

Perhaps firefox?
I read that firefox has really improved over the last year. But I'm sticking to chrome...
And then there's IE, who's only purpose is to open the door to Chrome's download page.
