| They're both amazing games, but I dare someone to argue with me. Not a flame war. Just a debate. |

| Hm, I've heard lots of complaints about Other M. What's it actually like? |

People hate the controls, Samus' character, etc.
It's pretty good if you look at it from the positive side, technically even a 2D metroid game at times. Most of the time, it's 3D, though. |

So, no is your best arguement?
Well, Other M brought new features, added on to Samus' past, and without it, Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion wouldn't really be canon anymore. |

I'd like to argue with that.
Firstly, new features? The melee combat feels completely out of place for a Metroid game. Secondly, we already had enough information about Samus's past to begin with. Other M just pointed stuff out. And finally, we don't need Metroid Other M to make Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion canon. They're games that are certainly not so popular these days, but they're old games anyway, and that's what happens when some games get old. |

So, if they're not popular, they aren't canon? Seems legit. Without Other M, you wouldn't know anything about Samus other than she became a bounty hunter directly after leaving the Galactic Federation, that she's a girl, and was raised by the Chozo. Plus, Metroid Fusion isn't that old. |

| Metroid's actually one of my favorite classic Nintendo franchises. Any reason it's bad? |

It's like Castlevania, with all the fun sucked out of it.
First of all, there's practically no story line. Other M did have a story, but it sucked. Half the time, the story is just "Oh, another Metroid has appeared. Go capture it." In Super Metroid, the jumping and shooting controls are awkward. It's hard to aim diagonally, and half the time, you're trying to spin while jumping, and you just jump normally. Additionally, it has the same problem with navigation as Metroid Prime does.
In Metroid Prime, there is practically no way to know where to go. Your best bet is to look at the map (which is confusing as hell) to try every possible room, and even then you'll still get stuck. The 3D just made it harder to navigate. There's no linearity or any indication of where to go. Then, when you do make some progress, such as finding a new part for your suit, you're STILL stuck because there's STILL nowhere to go. There's not some sort of Ice Door that you see and say, "Oh, I'll come back when I have the Ice Blast". NO, THERE IS NOTHING LIKE THAT. YOU EITHER KNOW WHERE TO GO STRAIGHT AT THE BEGINNING, OR YOU JUST WALK AROUND FOR 3 HOURS TO NO AVAIL.
That's just two games. |

You can customize your controls in Super Metroid. In Metroid Prime, you must have bad vision, or are focusing too much on the whole map. It's a good idea to focus on one room. Other M had a good story, but I can definitely say it was executed poorly. Also, Metroid was made to explore, not get bossed around. You do get bossed around in Fusion and Other M, but there's still a bunch to explore. |

"There's no linearity or any indication of where to go. "
If you knew anything about Metroid, you would know that non-linearity is one of the JOYS OF THE SERIES. Also, in Metroid Prime, there's a hint system that kicks in after a while a clueless exploration. |

I guess my game was bugged, because I would explore for hours and nothing showed up to even give me the slightest hint of where to go.
Also, Castlevania has linearity, unlike Metroid. The game's in a 2D aspect, the way Metroid should have stayed, making the map MUCH easier to use. Plus, for the DS, having one screen on the map entirely makes it much easier to know where to go. You can CLEARLY tell where there are unexplored areas, and even buy maps for the freaking castle. Plus, the game actually encourages the use of the abilities you gain (ex: double jump, backdash, slide), unlike Metroid who requires you to use them only when you do need them. No time in Metroid are you actually going to doublejump over your enemy, or bother rolling up into a ball to use a mine.
tl;dr Castlevania's linearity and map are done right. |

@Pika
I can argue with that video for hours. Prime 3's purpose was what, killing space pirates and Dark Samus. That's pretty much your only objective. Prime 2's objective is to save a world from 3 different things, but originally helping the Galactic Federation. Prime was pretty much the same as prime 3, wiping out space pirates, and the mutated Metroid Prime. Other M's purpose, on the other hand, actually did add quite a bit to the canon, chronologically proving that things could adapt to a spaceship 'dressed up' like their home. The Galactic Federation acheived their goal, and next happens fusion, which is simillar to Other M, by showing what the X Parasites were capable of. Other M's repeated bosses (Nightmare, Ridley)' corpses were taken to the BSL for further research. Then along comes the X Parasites. Other M didn't just point stuff out, it showed her bond and how she worked in the Galactic Federation, before becoming a Bounty Hunter. |

| Yes, and that's probably the best Metroid, which isn't saying much. That one actually shows you preemptive places. For example, in the beginning you find a Missile door across from the room you find missiles, so it makes sense to go there. But every other Metroid game throws that type of direction out the window. The Prime Series has absolutely no direction, and the fact that it's in 3D just makes it harder. Other M fixed part of that with its ability to change between 2D and 3D though. Aside from that, all the other Metroid games are just frustrating, but more tolerable than the Prime series. |
