One of my best friends (he is gunner120 here on ROBLOX) pitched a game idea to me at school about a month ago. His imagination is wild, and he has really cool artistic abilities. He sketched out his ideas and showed them to me.
I was in awe. Take all my ROBLOX game ideas and add them up, and it comes nowhere close to the creativeness as his idea.
NOTE, we came to the conclusion to develop this on Android. We figured we might have a possibility of actually making money off of it. We would probably lose money if we tried to develop it for iOS.
Anyway, this is what we came up with as a GENERAL game plan:
-----------
GAME NAME: Flick PLATFORM: Android, versions 15+ (4.0+ or Ice Cream Sandwitch+) TARGETED RELEASE DATE: Before Fall, 2013 GAME TYPE: 2D adventure/strategy GAME DEV ALIAS: Mesa Studios
--
MAIN CHARACTER: Toasty OTHER POSSIBLE CHARACTERS: Professor Isosceles, Dr. Quad, Mr. Ray
--
GENERAL SUMMARY:
You are Toasty. At the beginning of levels, you pop out of a toaster and into a sort-of mingled and artsy level that my good friend is designing currently. The objective is to travel to the other side of the level and get through a small hole without getting killed. If you die (falling out of level, hit killer object, shot by some killer object), then you reset at the start of the level.
--
MOVEMENT:
To move Toasty, you flick him with your finger (hence the game title). The idea is that you flick Toasty in the direction you want him to go. While he is airborne, you can flick him ONCE MORE in any direction to change his velocity a bit. That way if you overshoot a jump, you can flick him back down. Or if you didn't give him enough air, you can give him a little more boost to get to the top of a platform.
--
DEV NOTES:
As the lead developer, I am in charge of 100% of the programming involved. It is being programmed primarily in Java. I'm using a IDE called Spring Tool Suite, which is literally Eclipse with some added-on content for other non-Java things.
So far the game has about 1,500+ lines of Java code that I've written, however the game has only gotten to the point where a level can be started and display a "purple square" which is currently representing Toasty for now, until my designer has a finished image version of him complete.
I'm pretty new to Android development, but I've been around Java for a while. I will actually work as a paid intern for Nationwide Ins. this summer and do a lot of Java programming. It's a fun challenge!
--
The idea as a whole is still being developed. My friend is working on a whole storyline for this as well. We will be releasing this on the Google Play store for FREE once it is complete.
Feel free to post your thoughts/ideas/suggestions/criticism!

| You should make an exclusive version for iOS: an expensive version that's only available for a limited time. That way those of us without Androids will at least have a chance to get it. :P |

I agree with @ElectricBlaze, sell it for $0.99
Not everyone owns an Android device Most iOS users are willing to pay for apps |

| It'd be good if you roll it out for iOS once you've finished the Android one. Apps are much more popular on iOS, I read somewhere that 10% of Android users haven't ever downloaded an app. |

iOS: Costs about $100 a year to develop. Apps have to be approved by them Android: ONE-TIME $25 fee. Can put whatever you want up for free
iOS: Weird C-Objective Android: Awesome Java
iOS: Locked down Android: Entirely open-source
The clear pick for an indie developer is Android. |

Plus I don't own any iOS devices, therefore testing is literally impossible.
If something awesome happens and the game is hugely successful, then yes, I will develop it for iOS. |

Nook is android-based, but isn't it like version 2.3?
It really depends on what features we will need on the phone. I want to reach the lowest versions possible. Right now I have it set to a minimum of 4.1, but that may change near completion based on what is required. |

I totally agree about the Objective-C comment (worst programming language that was even intended to be used professionally--I wasted about 4 months of my life attempting to learn its stupid syntax), but your lacking an iOS device isn't an issue. I've used Xcode (Apple's iOS development IDE) in the past, and their simulations are actually very good.
Besides, ratings show that iOS Apps are used by way more people than Android users, so $100 a year isn't that much of a problem, so much as you charge enough for the app (remember, I suggested it be very expensive, perhaps $5, and that it only be available for a limited time).
The only problem I can find (besides the Objective-C, eww) is the percentage of profits you have to pay Apple. Absolutely ridiculous...

| I can't use xCode because I don't have a mac. I have absolutely no Apple products at all, except for an old 2nd gen iPod Nano. I don't like Apple, I never have, and I never will. |

| Because if you get Apple products, EVERY accessory for that item HAS TO BE Apple. It's a genius business technique, but one that seems like a sort-of monopoly, which I am against. |
