Since it's voxel based, is there some sort of optimization that is done?

@booing I don't really think so. To me it just seems like people care too much about efficiency. Even Sorcus agrees, 0.001 seconds difference doesn't matter. |

It does when you're working with tight loops and AI's.

How about "dannycore please."? People like you get too caught up in script efficiency, and worst of all, you all keep bothering me and telling me to get out even though I am perfectly complying with the rules of this forum. |

Sometimes the efficiency is necessary.
Regarding the topic, my money is on the devs being lazy so no. |

Efficiency is important, not everyone has a machine with a quad core I7 that is overclocked and liquid cooled.

well there are optimizations, voxel rendering (not "Boxels" as in minecraft or roblox which polygonise their voxels for rendering but pure voxel rendering) works on ray-casting through a volume to determine what colour a pixel should be.
They can do it frighteningly fast so i assume if speed really meant that much to roblox they could implement some of the well researched algorithms to speed things up a bit.
But honestly.. unless you are casting a million rays per frame it probably isn't worth it.

@Tenal a) The original poster specifically said it was curiosity, not efficiency, that drove the question. b) Although I do agree with you that these things are often blown out of proportion, you are breaking the rules. Right now. You are derailing this thread with irreverent flaming. c) Sorcus is a horrible person to cite for efficiency.

Rays "hit" Terrain, with FinfPartOnRay, but, as Part Name is just "Terrain", u don't know what type of Terrin, could be water. u gotta ask if ur AI is Swimming.
Also Ray hits the inside of the surface of the water, as it leaves water.
I would bet no difference, except that is is pretty empty inside Terrain; nothing to hit.

Tenal, have you noticed, every thread you post on or create here becomes an argument?
Have you ever thought...why...it becomes an argument?
Have you ever considered leaving Scripters? |

@sn0x The reason why threads I post on turn into arguments is because people similarly minded like you and 129k keep trying to find ways to argue with me. All I'm doing is expanding discussion, and my post was completely of innocence until DannnyCore's reply. You really need to look both directions, because it seems like you are often failing to do so. |

stop pitying yourself you're telling me to "leave" in threads and then an argument appears. it's all you, not us |
