there's a law that pretty much requires kids doing any actual social interactions online to be 13+ or have parent permission. sucks. You could just lie about your brothers age. |

| There is an actual U.S. law about this. It is COPPA(might be spelled different) and it is the reason, ROBLOX, FB, e-mail, etc. all limit it to 13. I think the reason is because that's when the gov't thinks that most people can use their own judgement(they have to set a standard since this varies between people) but I am quite likely wrong. |

| @nesa if your parents won't let you have an e-mail, why would they let you give out personal info to any random stranger in a game? |

@800imawesome, that's not a law, I do not believe.
You can simply go to account and push the "Ask parent to change age" button, go to that email, open it up, put in your b-day, and put safechat off. |

| Impossible. Freechatting is a 13+ feature because of COPPA. Anyone 13- needs parent permission to join sites such as ROBLOX, and some sites have special filters for them. |

| Reasons why you should be 13 To freely chat 1# You're thirteen your at that point where you can date in real life so Yea #2 There's alot of little cussers out there that can be reported but people are to lazy- plus some may do it by accident #3 Thats all I got really other-wise then you start cussing at 9 years of age thats what happen to me. c; |

@Twouble
I did not understand a single thing you said, and a lot of those statements are severely objective. It's not that ROBLOX wants to protect its younger users (though I hope they do), it is mandatory by the 1998 Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) that sites geared to children must follow requirements such as: 1) If the site requires contact information, it must be posted somewhere on the site that they are requesting x, y, and z pieces of information. 2) If the user is under the age of 13, parent permission via mail must be given.
Some sites, such as ROBLOX, also place extra filters on these users to assist in preventing the spread of confidential information by children.
The law is there not because 13 is the "legal age" to date. I'm a few months from being a legal adult, and my parents still do not like the idea of me dating at this age. Online, minors (17-) are prohibited from joining any sort of online dating site, so your point that 13 is the "age you are allowed to date" is invalid.
As for cursing, it will happen with 13+, it will happen with 12-. In the real world or in informal settings online, I do let out a few swears come out of my mouth, but preventing accidental swear words is as easy as re-reading what you type before you post, especially with simple errors like "shirt". Not all people are "too lazy" to report, as there are times when I usually send ROBLOX five or six reports in a one-hour period. |

| I think there shouldn't be safe chatting in the first place. Roblox Admin's already made it so that you can't say bad words on the website. When someone is a safe chatter you can't have a real conversation with them and they can't make a blurb, they can't do any forum posts, nor can they choose the name of a shirt or game that they made. |
