[A folder in the Murderously Simple files] [Apex Industries would like to now inform you that we are now…] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT] [Initiating launch process…] [An unexpected error occurred: error.knowledge_from_previous_thread_recommended] [Rebooting process.] {Reboot complete, welcome back [REDACTED]!}
A man in a black suit and light blue tie quietly flips the page in his folder only to discover the plain manila backing waits for him, marking the end to this story… or at least this chapter. He slides the paperclip back onto the folder and traverses the silent rows of blue steel cabinets, where he locates the one he is looking for. The door glides open on well-oiled hinges and he puts the folder into its designated slot. The sounds of battle still echo in his ears and the faces of those entering the portal are etched into his mind. He coughs and walks over to the window that overlooks the outside world and a black helicopter flies past, a helicopter not bearing the marks of any worldly military but that of an invasion force who took over long ago.
The world was now different than it once was, no longer a barren wasteland of filth and urban decay but a calm and orderly world, built in the views of the Universal Union and shaped to fit it. Unlike previous worlds they had conquered, this one was feeble and dying, but they had brought it back to a well-controlled life that had no place for petty resistances, because the population had nothing better to look back to. While police still brutalized the citizens and a puppet dictated their lives (as so happened in a certain novel he had read and particularly enjoyed), they continued living on.
Despite it all the facility they had once known was now in ruins, and the computer that had thought of it all was nothing more than a pile of scrap metal, melted down and possibly part of something greater, greater than he could have been by himself. The scientists who brought them here were now all functioning members of society, the remaining guards and soldiers were absorbed into their military and those who concerned him… well… The man walks back into the maze of file cabinets and finds just the right document to satisfy his needs. He scans over it and finds his answers. The half-dragon had been caught and put in stasis before he may've taken an unfortunate journey to the wrong place at the wrong time. He looked as if he had something he had to think over anyway.
The dwarf was also in prolonged stasis after considerable trauma after what he saw just after the invasion. The other half-dragon was given a position in the police force and the human was instilled as a citizen but closely watched after seeing his prowess with conventional weaponry, despite being a… mechanic. The remaining members of a series of beings born with… remarkable powers were allowed to pass by without intervention into the hands of the Universal Union where they are heavily detained and restrained where they have plenty of time to think by themselves… when they are awake that is. The robots? Unfortunately melted down into scrap and was now part of an APC that patrolled the streets day and night. ASTRAL, the remaining supercomputer that once ran a measly science facility was rewired to instead be the commanding voice of the police force and sentinel of the Universal Union’s strongholds. Francis, a notable scientist and traitor, was set as just another citizen while his successor, Dr. Eisemburg -the one who willingly took up a position as speaker for the Superiors- now resides in his office in the colossal tower that sits watching over the new capital of the entire planet.
Everything is in an unnatural order, but it is time to act once again.
It is time to wake those who sleep. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [/Useful Information/] [[CITIZENS NOTICE:
[I will provide starting posts once everyone who wishes to show up is accepted.] All newcomers will start being taken out of stasis by the man in the suit with the others, though they may or may not be past Subjects from T.I.A.R.] ALL CHARACTERS HAVE BEEN IN PROLONGED STASIS {exceptions mentioned in previous thread’s epilogue.} Knowledge of the world now will be provided through your own efforts (e.g., conversation with other characters, finding notes and documents, common sense.)]
[Extra information can and will be provided if regarding things I may have left out, plot-holes (though I try to avoid those) and questions about the previous thread for those who don’t have the time to skim it all.]]

FILE [T.I.A.R] OPEN// - SUBJECT OMEGA
N.am.e: Marcus Red "Kali"
A.g.e: 18
R.a.c.e: Evolved Human
Likes: Music, Athletics
Dislikes: Supercomputers, Harveth, Police, Alien Overlords, Stupid people
Items: Nothing, with the exception of a small, pitch black knife, a smaller variant of his sword, the only weapon he was able to conceal from the Warden.
Have You Committed Any Crimes Before Coming Here?: Yes, many.
If So, What Were They?: Mass murder, Arson, Destruction of property, Theft, Grand Theft Auto, Larceny, Grand Larceny, Assault, Braking and Entering
A.p.p.e.r.a.n.c.e: He has dark black skin, which as earned his prison nickname of "Kali". He also has dark, sea blue eyes that not a single man or alien can look in directly...except for one. Through of physical torments, he has a large build, one that makes him a living, breathing death machine. He stands at 6'2. He also has chocolate hair with a small red area on the left side of his head, his "birthmark".
Bio: The fact that Subject Omega is alive is a testament in itself. He arrived at the Institute of Abnormal Research during the 2070's and, while nearly destroying the facility, liberated the test subjects their, freeing them from there chains. Once CAIN had been restored and Francis dealt with, Mark left with the former chairman of the facility, Edward Fredrickson. Through his travels, he found a young woman whom he shared in a relationship with, one Veronica Black. Through his own endeavors, he indirectly killed both of his companions. On his vendetta of revenge, he picked up an aged Francis, who help him get to New York City. The details of this rescue are unknown. Once in New York, he was betrayed by Francis and was detained by the APEX Security Force, headed by one Dakota Argent, Subject Delta. During his rage in prison, Marcus destroyed the entire above ground facility in something only comparable to a nuclear blast. He survived and proceeded to the underground where he was killed and brought back to life by a corrupted T-REASON. In reality, it was the Subject Meta who saved Marcus's life. Mark then confronted ASTRAL, who had consumed the personality and knowledge of T-REASON. He was, once again, "killed" in the activation of the Superior Vortex. He was then teleported outside of the facility by APEX guard to help fight the invading force. After a massive battle, where he killed at least 750 Superior troops, he was finally overwhelmed, but was save by Harveth who then proceeded to betray him and allow the Vortex to consume them all. After being sucked into the Vortex, he was dumped eight years later, during the end of the "Great Reconstruction". He was detained, after killing three platoons and a small company, and sentenced to life of testing in the TIAR Facility in the remnants of the new formed Capital, New Union. He has been detained for two years, in which time he has aged to the year of 18.

I stand in a barren cell, with no walls or windows and a fading coat of light blue paint. The red iris of CARW, Central Advanced Robotic Warden, watches over me, as usual. A moldy plate of food sits in the corner. I didn't need it. They had somehow restrained my powers, but not enough that it stopped me from creating small things, such as food. Maybe they only allowed for me to do even that...another one of there tests. A loud bang resonates from my door, indicating that it was time for a new day of tests. My door opens, silently, spare only a small metallic click. I walk out and into the row of other subjects. None of them my kind, but only serious offenders and war criminals. I laugh inside. If only they knew what a real crime was. But no. The line moves...
And to another day of hell I go. |

Meanwhile in a bar situated in the connection between all minds and in a place so far from space even the concept of space seems distant, a black and red half dragon and his many alternate lives are getting hammered.
The occasion? Today the half dragon will open the door, he will jump out into the fabric of pseudo-reality, all to get back to the critical point in the universe where he physically presides, so that he may live the final chapter of his doomed life... that or destroy the one person he wouldn't dare, simply to do it again in another three or four decades.
This story has gotten very odd hasn't it? |

Before the half dragon can do it himself, the door opens and a man wearing a black suit and navy blue tie steps in cautiously. "Mr... Harvath, you've rested so long and I see you are celebrating a time of... great occasion, but I am here to guide you back to your... physical self. The world has changed greatly, as I assume you have guessed, and it is time to... reabsorb you into society." The Observant says with a tight smile while rubbing his hands together. "You will probably have your own devices to attend to, so I've taken the liberty of registering you into a residential block. From there... I suppose you have a plan in mind." |

((Haha, you bumped around when I was posting.))

The Universal Union had since replaced much of the old facility and are in the process of building a newer section for their own devices. That being said, the testing chambers were now almost directly connected with the cell blocks, with several guard posts and security measures in-between. The medical feel was retained but no longer was it even the slightest bit friendly, now unfeeling white panels reinforced with steel and rinsed every day to remove the stains of failed test subjects and those who attempted to escape.
The tests were now largely oriented on seeing how far humans could be pushed before they finally snapped and were taken away to the new section of the building, which was hidden behind huge metal blast doors and shimmering force-fields that only allowed their devices- including soldiers- in and out of. Once all had entered the main chamber ( a large, square room with a high ceiling and various positions for soldiers to stand guard over you ), a similar field went up in front of the exit and a section of wall opened to reveal today's test.
Today the first chamber involved the Long Room, a huge hall with a cathedral-like rooftop and spanned for a good few kilometers into the distance before ending at another blast door. This time the floor was made into a deep pool filled with what appeared to be water. Along the edges of the pool were openings, some under the water and some slightly above the waterline. As with all the tests they ran, there were no instructions other than what you are presented with.
A couple of the other criminals look around suspiciously, glancing at the uniformed and masked soldiers on the platforms above, carefully watching each and every one of you through the sights of their weapons. Others shrug and lower themselves into the water and immediately shiver as they find it to be uncomfortably and numbingly cold. |

I waded into the pool, the only one who is calm and collected. I stand int he water for some time, concentrating, making sure that I channeled my energy.
Today was a special day. One that I would always make them remember, as I had the past year. Oh, they punished me for that one, three months inside a simulated reality of torment and torture. Always on this day...
The day that Fredrick and Veronica died.
All the subjects had submerged themselves, gone to the tunnels underneath the water, to the various testing chambers. None of them could be harmed. I didn't wish it. They did not deserve my wrath. But the men and women inside the glass shield did, the guards, and the Observant.
I had spent months and months preparing for this moment, collecting my energy, harnessing my powers. I had learned a great many a things in the past year. All this water...and my knife/sword. Lets see how they fared.
~ Mark
Hay, Scientists, Guards! You like water? Have some!
Mark
Within an instant, the water rises and, with the pressure of a million fire hydrants, I crush the scientists behind the glass. I take my knife and implant it in the nearest guard, killing him instantly. The alarms sounded.
~ CARW
MARCUS RED, YOU WILL NOT ESCAPE THIS FACILITY ALIVE!
Mark
But who cared?
I had nothing to live for.
I rise from the water and walk to the nearest gate and rip it from it hinges. And storm down the left hallway, not expecting to survive.

"Another nightmare, eh?" asks a nearby citizen sitting on a wooden chair overlooking the street below. "Don't blame you, I haven't been sleeping well myself." He picks up a nearby mug and takes a deep drink from it and continues to stare forlornly out the window of the apartment which lets in a feeble light, just enough to see your surroundings that you call 'home': a pair of dingy mattresses without any sheets on a dirty hardwood floor. There are a couple chairs scattered around the room, facing the windows, all of which are empty except for the one in the right hand corner where the man sits.
There is an underused bathroom directly in front of you and near the entrance of the apartment there is a kitchen with a counter, stove, and refrigerator. You once had a television but it has since gone missing from the apartment and nobody in the other rooms has confessed to snatching it.
-Harvath
The Observant takes you out of the door and when you step outside you find yourself in a small, open air courtyard surrounded by a beige concrete wall with a dead tree standing in the middle, over a patch of brown grass that died a long time ago. Behind you is the door you exited from, though the inside is no longer a well lit bar but a derelict ruin of gray wood and garbage strewn across the floor. To your right is an exit into the street, that appears empty from here, except for a garbage bin and a couple derelict vehicles.
The Observant himself clears his throat from beside you and dusts off his suit. "Well, that was a quick journey, don't you think? As for your place of residence, I assure you that you will be pleased with Apartment number 8 in this residential sector. It should be on the third floor, and the third door on the left. If you have any questions... don't hesitate to ask them now."
-Mark
The left hall is short and funnels into another cell-block, but this one is much older and appears to be abandon by the Universal Union, judging by the state of disrepair this section has fallen into. Nor the guards nor the scientists give pursuit, at least not right now, however a force-field suddenly blocks any retreat back into the more populated sector. The only way is forward and down a flight of crumbling steps into more familiar surroundings, but also more sinister ones.
Everything is feebly lighted by stationary industrial flood-lamps that barely penetrate the amount of vegetation that seeks to strangle what little man-made structure is left to this section and somewhere in the shadows below something small and spidery with four legs skitters into another passage. The cells to your right are empty and full of old furniture and technology, obviously stored there by the occupying forces who have no need of it, though the stench of death faintly wafts through the thick, green smell of nature. |

"A select group of privileged and powerful individuals that take interest in people like you, those who have take the initiative to survive and thrive despite overwhelming odds." He says with the tone of someone explaining something incredibly basic to a young child. "Now, if you do not mind... I have places to be and people to attend to." He begins to walk away, towards the entrance to the street. |

The Observant turns the corner and disappears out of [your li(n)e of sight]. When you reach the doorway you find that he has vanished altogether. Now that you have cleared the courtyard, however, you come to see the state of the world head on. A massive black tower that scrapes the clouds stands on the horizon with a vast number of apartments and industrial buildings mashed in a bizarre colleague of buildings between you and it.
Overhead a lone black chopper swoops by, causing the power-lines to dance in the wind created from it's blades and pages of newspaper to be billowed up in a spectacular whirlwind. As the chopper passes, flying towards the tower in the distance, a foot patrol of two figures in black uniforms and gas masks approach from down the street as a worn face peers from the window of the apartment across the way. The face watches the figures come down the block and pass you by without even a glance, as if you weren't even there to begin with. |
