| You saw a shirt for $97. You didn’t have the cash, so you borrowed $50 from your mum and $50 from your dad = $100. You bought the shirt, and had $3 change. You gave your dad $1 and your mum $1 and kept the other $1 for yourself. Now you owe your mum $49 and your dad $49. 49+49 = 98 + your $1 = 99. Where is the missing $1? |

You gave 1$ from yourself but didn't borrow 1$ from yourself.

the shirt is 97 and you owe 100 to your mom and dad that makes 50 each and 97/2 for the actual cost 48.5 that makes 48.5 +48.5 +2= 99 and one dollar is with you.

In the end you still owe your parents an additional .50 cents each for your initial purchase of the shirt.

When you paid $97.00 for the shirt you should have given each parent $48.50 for the purchase of the shirt, which would = $97.00.
Then add the $1.00 each you returned from the change. At this point you should have $99.00 as your total.
Finally add the $1.00 that you kept, which should give you $100.00.
In the end you still owe your parents an additional .50 cents each for your initial purchase of the shirt. |

When you paid $97 bux for the shirt you should have given each parent $48.50 for the purchase of the shirt, which would = $97.00.
Then add the $1 each you returned from the change. At this point you should have $99.00 as your total.
Lastleh add the $1.00 that you kept, which should give you $100 buckz

misleading question. The $2 you paid back + the $98 you still owe, = the $100 you borrowed, plain and simple. They confuse the issue: 1) by failing to add the $2 you already paid back in their final formula, and 2) by counting the dollar you kept for yourself, when it is already assumed in the amount you still owe. Thus the formula should be $1 + $1 ($2 you already paid back) + $49 + $49 (the $98 you still owe, including the one you "kept") = $100, not "$49 + $49 = $98 + $1 = $99".

It didn't go anywhere. You spent $97, and gave $1 to each parent and kept $1 which equals $100. You owed each parent $49 (total $98) and paid each parent $1 (total $2) = $100. If you paid the $1 you kept for yourself back to your parents, then the reduced amount you would've owed them would be $97. |
