Female musicians? Not singers, but female electric guitarists and bassists. And drummers. Why are there way more males than females in the rock industry? It's just weid to me.

I don't know. That's actually a pretty good point. But there's more than you expect there is.
I love Izzy Hale in Hailstorm. She is really good. |

Yeah, I think there should be more. My friend's a really good female electric guitarist, and she plays drums, bass, keyboards, too. I know she's in a really good all female hard rock band. But you think about it, the last all girl hard rock band was probably Vixen. The Runaways were good too. But, you rarely see females in bands that aren't the lead vocalists. Halestorm's great. I also really like Jennifer Batten, and Joan Jett and the Blackheart. It just seems that females shy away from rock and metal music.

Females do generally shy away from rock and metal because of stereotypes that it's too masculine. There are actually tons of female acoustic guitarists as you probably know, but electric is something else. Girls get it in their heads that they can't play rock and metal because it's not girly enough and guys don't like it. It would be cool to see more girls in these genres though. I play electric guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard. I've never really had a hard time with the girls can't play rock ideas. It's just not what the majority of teenage girls do, so most teenage girls don't try it.

Well, my band's lead guitarist is a girl and she also does backup/harmony vocals. I see no problem with it at all. |

That's what I do in my band. The others are all guys. I don't think there's anything wrong with it at all.

I've seen an all-female metal band...
they were terrible. But I'm talking about one, not all. |

Yeah, there are a lot of all female bands that are terrible and use looks to get popular. They make all female bands look bad.

lol focusing on genders like it matters if a musician is male / female
really the only thing that is affected from gender is a vocalist, and we have a lot of female vocalists so

I'll be honest, I'd like to see more female bands, but I'd like having both males and females in a band.

You're right. I think it would be great to see more bands with members of both genders.

There are great bands out there with different genders, but, I want my own band to be both female and male.

Yeah, i'm the only girl in my band. But it would be cool to have about a balance of both males and females in the band.

I haven't started my own band yet. But still, I think a balance of both would make more sense, just because of how diverse it is.

Yeah, it would definitely make sense. And band members of both genders might get along better than all female or all males.

True. Cause the way that The Runaways turned out ( Not based on gender ), it seemed successful, and they are a good band, but, it just seemed that they were all interested in different stuff.

The Viking metal/melodic death metal band Ensiferum has a female keyboardist.

Yeah, The Runaways ended up hating eachother, too, which stinks. Girls don't get along, but a mix of both males and females would probably get along. You're right. Some of the members were more interested in hard rock and some were more into punk, and Cherie was just into the glam rock.

But, Kim Fowley also hurt the band somewhat. Creating drama within the band. Plus, I personally think that the band isn't much when Cherie and Jackie left. Plus, I really feel bad for Sandy, who wanted a reunion. But since we're mostly discussing all female bands, I can see how drama like that can ruin a band, especially when fame hits. Like The Runaways in Japan.
