"LOOK, FELLOW GERMS! A PIZZA, WE MUST FEAST!"
"No, we must wait five seconds."
Germs are merciless, they will not wait 5 seconds for the owner to reclaim the food, they will jump on there, and then you'll eat the pizza, taking the germs along with it.
Next time my sister does the 5 second rule I'm telling her the truth, but not before she eats the whole thing.
She can eat it, and then I'll tell her. |

| It may be more of a matter of "likelihood of a person to step on whatever you dropped in the time it was on the ground" |

@awesomeness
I mean in the house, nobody's going to walk past and step on it. |

| Well in that case, it makes no sense. But I think we all knew that deep inside. |

jimmy you do realize that a piece of food that is on the floor for even a whole minute will still have such a negligible amount of germs on it that your immune + digestive systems won't even need to put in extra effort to deal with it

Yes.
But my sister will totally creep out if I tell her there were germs on it. |

She's a clean freak type person, if I say anything about germs she'll go mad. |

Germs do not "jump", they are immobile. Germs get around from being spread by other creatures. |

Actually, the amount of germs on the floor depends on how often you clean it/whose feet step on it. On most floors, there certainly are a sustantial amount of germs.
Also, there's hair and dust mites and stuff on the floor. Euch. |
