I started a new one because i couldnt keep up with comments on the other one. So read it if you havent and comment if you think you know the answer. SHOW YOUR WORK. Here is the question:
Three men go to stay at a motel and the clerk charges them $30.00 for the room. They split the cost ten dollars each. Later the manager tells the clerk that he over- charged the men and that the actual cost should have been $25.00. He gives the clerk $5.00 and tells him to give it to the men. But he decides to cheat them and pockets $2.00. He then gives each man a dollar. Now each man has paid $9.00 to stay in the room and 3 X $9.00 = $27.00. The clerk pocketed $2.00. $27.00 + $2.00 = $29.00. So where is the other $1.00? |

| Oh no wait 30 total minus 1 pound per person is 27 pounds, and the clerk keeps 2, this equals 25. |

$9 x 3 = $27, while accurate math, isn't relevant to the question. The 3 men gave the hotel $30. The hotel gave five to the bellboy, who kept $2 and gave the men $3. So, the hotel had $25, the bellboy had $2 and each of the 3 men got back $1 or a total of $3 to the men so: $25 (hotel) + $2(bellboy) + $3(men) = $30. |

There is no last dollar.
Each man paid ten dollars, for $30. It should be $25 so the clerk keeps $2 and gives back $1 to each man. They have now each spent $9, making $27. BUT, it SHOULD have been $25, so the clerk kept two, making it $27.
(I had posted this on the last topic too) |

| Each person paid 9$, the 2$ was part of what they paid so it doesn't get added on. The amount they were returned is what gets added on which was 3$ (1 each). Which would make 30$. |

They paid 5 bucks too much, 30-5 = 25 The clerk keeps 2 dollars of that amount, 30-2 = 28 Take the amount the clerk has, minus the amount they actually need to pay; 28-25 = 3 Three dollar is left; each man gets one dollar back. 3/3 = 1
There is an error in your story. |

| The two shouldn't be added to the total, it should be subtracted. Trick question. 27-2=25 |
