Comments? I think it's gotta be the stupidest thing ever, as it has almost no offline capabilities, and my current computer uses the Internet just fine... Also, there would be so many incompatible programs..

The only possible good thing about it is that Acer is building it, and it looks great! But Google should not go into the Laptop/Desktop OS business yet, unless they can really make it something worth it.

I think you only read the title. - Solid state drive - Virtually no viruses, as you can only get stuff from the chrome market - Direct syncing with your google account - Light and then, for transportation - Obviously not a gaming PC - You can get 3G for it

It's not meant to be used the same way as a windows pc, it's more like an iPad with the interface of a laptop.

It feels like it's a bad idea because it's a laptop except it doesn't do stuff you don't need it to do.

I think Google is trying to capitalize on this trend of "move everything to the web" way too early. It isn't a bad idea, really, just bad timing.

Why would they give Windows 8 a UI that users of previous Windows versions would find cumbersome?

Awsum, they actually leave the original Desktop in there as an app you can run. It's pretty nice. Windows 8 is a great OS.

Chromebook is a new type of PC. Note I didn't say 'generation' or 'era'. The PC will still continue as in being more portable and more connected and more functionality, but chromebooks are basically budget netbooks for people who only use the internet.

Chromebooks are great for people who are normal, i.e. people who don't program and play fancy games. I'm considering one for my parents, because honestly, that's all they use - the internet. It does everything they need to, simpler, and faster, cheaper, and cleaner.
Chrome books aren't good for people like us, who want to do _more_ with a computer, Chrome books are for people who have lives (Just kidding). But it depends on the user. For programmers, no, it's horrible. For games, nope, but for the average parent, this is what they want, and need.
No more updates. No more configurations. No more crashes. No more slow start ups
Open up the lid, and they get onto their email, which is basically half of what they do on the internet.
Honestly, you can complain all you want, it's not designed for you, it's designed for people who only use the internet. Did I mention it's cheap too? Yeah, $200 isn't a lot for a computer.
To address the offline capabilities thing: Try unplugging your internet for a few minutes. Now, try to do something fun. I doubt you'll get to far. Chromebooks do have offline apps, for those times, but mostly, you aren't going to be doing much without the internet, and it's not that hard to get a connection, especially since 3G is built in.
Overall, it's not for you, it's for those who want and need it, who don't want to worry about security, viruses, etc, and do work. I think it's a great concept, but a computer I would hate. |

What sold me on windows8 was the improved multi-monitor support; the fact that I can have metro on one screen and desktop on the other. That actually sounds quite nice.
