| No, I'm not suici.dal or anything, I'm just posing a legitimate discussion topic. What is the purpose of life, or even the existence of the universe itself? If you're reli.gious, why would you bother living in the first place if a perfect heav.en awaits you? If you're not reli.gious, wouldn't it just be easier for nothing to exist at all? Discuss. |

Because this is all a dream
Think about it, when you experience a dream and die in the dream you wake up in this world.
Once we die we must wake up in another world we may or may not have been in before
This explains why the world is such a horrible place, because this is a nightmare. |

as an atheist i struggled with this question for awhile
coming from a religious backround, i felt an emptiness when i realized there was no god
i was able to fill this with pledging myself to the betterment of humanity as a whole |

| I believe the purpose of life is different depending on the person. For me, it is having good morals, being successful and being happy. |

Most people don't even take that question seriously. Anyway I sent a message to OP hours earlier, and of course, no reply. So I'll post it here.
I'm an atheist and I must say that besides survival and rерroduction, there is no absolute meaning of life. Each individual should choose their own meaning and follow it. But even that view is a selected meaning of life.
When I die, I'll continue to exist in the memories of the people who knew me. Them and their memories will briefly die as they are mortal like myself. If I get famous before I die, I will last in the minds of many for longer, but eventually humans have got to come to an end. Once you are dead, all your actions: accomplishments, mistakes... will not have mattered. To me, since it is the only thing I have, life is valuable and precious. All life, whether it belongs to me, my friends, my family, strangers... regardless of any physical or emotional traits these people possess.
I'll go into a state of equilibrium. That means I will be at perfect peace. Even the Buddhists say that is the best afterlife ("Nirvana"). You see, when a human is living, it engages in activities because of a disequilibrium. We all have disequilibrium due to needs and desires. All of our actions are backed by needs and desires, however subtle and unapparent it may seem. A perfect living thing at perfect peace (which is impossible) is complete; it has no needs and desires. Therefore, it will not do anything. It does not think. It does not feel. It does not move. It does not act.
Before you go into equilibrium, however, you will hallucinate by releasing DMT and having a lack of oxygen to the brain. You just don't all of a sudden stop in the skip of a heartbeat. If you come back to life, you'll remember what you "saw" when you were dead. I personally don't think you're dead when your brain is still sort of working like that: it's like your final dream before death. After the dream, you are completely incapable of thinking and feeling, absolutely dead. Those dead hallucinations won't last forever, they don't last more than nine minutes if I remember correctly. But if you were dead for more than nine minutes, it might have felt as if that dream lasted the whole time you were dead. It's like when you sleep: you don't sense anything unless your subconscious brews up a dream. And often, the hallucinations are based off what you believed would happen when you die. So that's pretty cool: we all get what we want or what we think we deserve when we die... even if it's fake.
Death is the only true, perfect peace you'll ever have. Before that, you experienced what it "feels" like to be nothing. You did not need to work. You did not use your energy. You did not think of how bad it feels to not exist. You couldn't even perceive time, so myriads of decades flew by without you even noticing; you didn't wait to be born. But most importantly, you never felt the fun, happiness, or excitement of life until you came into existence. Don't deny it, you've felt something positive at some point in life. You would not have felt that if you didn't exist. When you die, you'll lose everything: your memories of life, experience, thoughts, senses, so life is pointless. Any positive happenings would not matter anymore. But life's also the greatest thing to have ever happened to you. Keep it as long as you can.
ps. Sorry for the long post. This is my permanent last post on WWC, honest. |

I think we are en experiment for god, he's trying to create the perfect civilization, he starts us off and helps sometimes but he wants us to do things on our own
Most attempts have been faliure |

| I've wondered the same. I've found no logical reason, I'm studying to be a scientist. No scientific reason, if you ask me |

| But if nothing existed to begin with, would any of this even matter? Would it not be easier for nothing to exist at all? This can also apply to religion. What is the point of a god existing? |

But perhaps it is a waste of time to ask such questions, because regardless of whether we find an answer or not, the universe is here, Earth is here, and we are here, and that isn't going to change as a result of such a moot debate.
Another question, what exactly is life? When thinking unconsciously, the answer is very simple. However, when you actually get down to thinking about how you move, breath, and think, it gets very complicated. What exactly does it mean to live? What does it mean to be a person? When you think like this, you feel as if you are inside of a shell, being your body. What truly separates us from a dog, a bug, or even a rock? How do we really know that they don't feel as well? Even though rocks and sand and whatnot are inorganic compounds, they are still made of atoms, just like us. How can you make a living thing out of nonliving matter? It's almost like sewing together a bunch of blue rags in the hope of making a red quilt. |

The purpose of life is simply reproduce and make your offspring. Why? Because the reason our species, /all species/ exist is because their goal is to reproduce. And the reason its their goal is because all species that did not have the will to reproduce, simply ceased to exist. |

| I don't really believe the universe is infinite, thinking about it logically. The universe is proven to be still expanding. If it's still expanding, then it's not infinite, because infinity + x = infinity (no change) |

| Also, what is the point in reproducing? If all life in the universe disappeared, there would be no reproduction yet the universe would continue to exist. |

@TheReal That is quite open to debate. My personal belief is that there is a multiverse (universes beyond our own) and outside of our universe is a gap between ours and another. |

| Well it's proven there is other universes than our own. But my question is what is outside that boundy? Are we small creatures in a gigantic tank? Or are we in some thing amazing that nobody knows about. Maybe this thought process made reliegon? Well the world may never know. |
