| Honestly, secession movements break up evil empires, like the USSR, Great Britain, and hopefully the Federal Government of the Unite States of America. |

| We voluntarily joined and created a union, and we should be able to voluntarily leave the union. And decentralization is actually better. Explain Hong Kong plz. |

Hong Kong was and still is highly autonomous.
And by we I referred to the states, more specifically, my current residence, the Commonwealth of Virginia. |

Texas needs the United States more than it realizes, and this petition isn't just people from texas, but people from all over the world, not to mention people making new accs and keeps on signing it.
There are more Texans that want to stay apart of the United States then don't.
Texas's population is 25,674,681 and even if the amount of people that signed this petition is texan [which they aren't] its just a minor fraction of the total population of Texas.
This is just a bunch of drama and people are feeding it attention.
The United States isn't breaking up- and we still stand true to our name.
In-fact, their are a lot of other territories/countries that want to become a state of America.
This is just a bunch of drama.

@twinkie
It's also against the Constitution for a state to just break away from the United States. |

Like I said, its only a minor fraction of people that actually want it to happen- You know their are also a minor fraction of people that believe humans should move to the Sun.
Its just a bunch of drama.

It's one freaking city twigs, it's not like a huge decentralized nation.
Speaking of those, if decentralization is so fine and dandy, how comes the HRE got it's arse handed to it until it was destroyed by one of the most centralized nations in history? |

It's one freaking city twigs, it's not like a huge decentralized nation. - One city that economically rivals a good deal of other nations.
Hong Kong, Singapore, Macau, all autonomous city states with massive economic swath.
Speaking of those, if decentralization is so fine and dandy, how comes the HRE got it's arse handed to it until it was destroyed by one of the most centralized nations in history? - Military tactics =/= effective governance.
And if you will remember, German guerrillas pushed France out.

But even then, HRE survived as a strong confederacy, and was defeated by a centralized nation.
For about 1000 years.
There, your point broken. |

It's called the Internet and modern transportation, as technology brings us closer nations become more centralized, that quote in one form or another has been used for so long it's lost it's meaning.
Worst comes to worse, you always have local government, as that will always have some place. |

| The actual end of the empire came in several steps. The Peace of Westphalia in 1648, which ended the Thirty Years' War, gave the territories almost complete sovereignty. The Swiss Confederation, which had already established quasi-independence in 1499, as well as the Northern Netherlands, left the Empire. Although its constituent states still had some restrictions—in particular, they could not form alliances against the Emperor — the Empire from this point was a powerless entity, existing in name only. The Habsburg Emperors instead focused on consolidating their own estates in Austria and elsewhere. |

The HRE was slave to it's centralized neighbors for about 100 years you mean.
You know a Centralized nation that lasted even longer though?

Worst comes to worse, you always have local government, as that will always have some place. - Better them than some bureacrat thousands of miles away.
Tell me why the British government had to rely on local rulers again? |

Why didn't Nahtzee Germany make it onto your list? I'm pretty sure that the British Empire martyred itself to destroy this truly evil Empire. |

The Roman Republic/Empire - Ruled by locals for the most part and relied on absorbing the locals. It was never as centralized as you think. |
