NOTE: I'm putting my reply here, because, frankly, I think this fits into advanced scripting (modifying your interface to accommodate for your users). "'Techboy6601: iPad detection. iPad detection would be a great way to give iPad users a more intuitive experience. For example, in first-person shooters, having a giant button to shoot would be a pain for desktop users but would help iPad users.
Do you mean like game:GetService(“UserInputService”).TouchEnabled?'"
Kind of. I would prefer something more simpler though, such as having a value in the Player instance named "TouchEnabled" (as that would be much easier to remember and work with). I think that this is personally the best way to do it because it allows for a wider range of games to work on the iPad better as well as other devices than the iPad in the future; should you choose to branch out into Android or other platforms.

| I agree. UserInputService is local. That's just more work for people who want to access it from a script. |

Do you think some people would be all mad because you're seperating them from regular users?
Perhaps it's an option of ROBLOX to send data as an ipad user or not. |

But we're not separating people; iPad players will be able to play on the same servers as Mac and Windows players.
As for interface separation? I'm afraid it would be necessary for a good user experience anyways. With smaller screen real estate it's very likely that some GUIs could end up becoming completely unusable because the buttons end up overlapping and such. iPad controls fix this so they're there when they are needed and don't bother the regular PC user when s/he wants to play the game. |

| How do you _not_ separate iPad users from PC users? Roblox is about to make an update to treat iPad and PC the same and it looks completely revolting. We don't want that happening to our games. I, for one, will not be accommodating iPad users in my games for that exact reason. |

^ Exactly. Arceus says he won't be accommodating iPad users, something I very well unintentionally do in my game.
That's why iPad users should be able to either say "I want to be considered an IPad", or "I don't want to be considered an IPad", so that when people get a property that is like UserType, they can send back "PC" instead of "IPad", so they get the same treatment, and don't get autobanned or something.

"so they get the same treatment, and don't get autobanned or something."
Idea: What if we could get all the famous game devs to autoban iPad users until these guis don't look like total crap anymore.

Arceus, I'm not really understanding what's bothering you so much. This is a whole new platform with new opportunities (think about it - it's not unlikely they could add vibration, or gyrometer, or any other tablet-like feature in the near future). I can understand some anger towards trying to unite platforms, but remember that when others (primarily console ports, such as BF3 and CoD) try to keep platforms separate people still get mad.
I'm just not sure why you're willing to downright deny the ability for iPad players to play your game. Care to explain? |

I'm sensing that there is a bit of Apple hate going around here, so let's just pretend the iPad wasn't made by Apple.
Let's say it was just...there. I don't know. It's not relevant.
But anyways, if you are presented a new platform which you could exploit (metaphorical terms, of course), wouldn't you like to use that platform's features?
The bottom line is that there will indeed be a huge amount of iPad players, and those chances are increased by the fact that the iPad still has a bigger market share. Choosing to not optimize your game is one thing, but denying them the ability to play is just cruel. That's just like auto-guest-banning scripts. You could even add to this point BC games.
I think what we all need to do is not let our bias towards Android or Apple (or something else) overrule the decision here. We need to remember that regardless who made it or what its disabilities are, it is a new platform with many new opportunities, |

It's not the iPad I hate. I'm all for the iPad. It's those hideous GUIs they're going to force upon us. |

It's nothing about Apple. It's just that tablets, mobiles, and everything else just aren't good for actually doing things. |

A property in the player or something would be nice.
In response to all the autobans:
game.Players.PlayerAdded:connect(function(p) if p.MembershipType.Value == 3 then p:Destroy() end end) game.Players.PlayerAdded:connect(function(p) if p.AccountAge <365*2 then p:Destroy() end end) game.Players.PlayerAdded:connect(function(p) if p.SuperSafeChat then p:Destroy() end end) game.Players.PlayerAdded:connect(function(p) if p.Name:match("^Guest %d+") then p:Destroy() end end)
Autobanning is nothing new. I don't expect it to be handled any differently than what's already here. Any feature to separate one player from another can be used to autoban. There's just little to no point of it for most people. Want tickets? Don't ban random people! And that's what most people want. And the ones that do want to autoban iPad people (Arceus) don't really have any popular games. The ones that do, and are like us, are probably smart enough to not have that hate towards iPads and won't be autobanning people that use them.
It comes down to either: Not smart at all and only wants tickets. Won't ban iPads so they get more tickets; OR: They are smart like us, aren't complete money-wanting 'noobs,' and can see past any hate towards iPads. Between that, most people won't even make a popular game. It's the really smart people or the really dumb people that get popular games: Not the smart but procrastinating people like ourselves. [Please notice that this doesn't apply to everybody. For example: Quenty makes really cool games and puts work into them, he just doesn't have a REALLY popular one yet. I don't think he'd ever autoban iPad users.] |

@Droban
You seem to be missing the point here. The objective of ROBLOX isn't to gain tickets. It's to make games you can be proud of easily. Some people, like Arceus, use their places to do amazing things that aren't necessarily meant to attract people. Think of it like messing with electronics to figure out their limit, instead of figuring out how to use your discoveries to make a better-selling product.
@Everyone else talking about horrible GUIs
Oh...my...errr....either an alpha build leaked into gametest somehow, or the devs have lost it. |
