Linux kernels are generally for more programming-savvy users.

"spoiler: you can still use windows 7/xp .. linux isn't compatible with pretty much any programs so good luck"

yeah but 7 and xp are only on older computers
which will eventually slow down and break down due to mechanical failures
windows itself contributes to this by putting extra wear on the hard drives with its registry and all that crap

and the major companies like valve and sky/pe are already porting to linux and there's tons of alternatives to common programs already native on linux

"Linux kernels are generally for more programming-savvy users."

in the past yes
now, running linux is as easy as running an executable for ubuntu wubi
or burning and booting from a cd or usb drive
then just click a few buttons and your system is completely setup

"Firefox or Chrome is on the non-KDE versions."

firefox and chrome can be run on kde

kde is just a graphic environment shell, it only represents the windows that you see
everything else is standard with most linux distros
