The answer to the question - "Are black and white colors?" - is one of the most debated issues about color. Ask a scientist and you'll get a reply based on physics: “Black is not a color, white is a color.” Ask an artist or a child with crayons and you'll get another: “Black is a color, white is not a color.” (Maybe!)
What do you think? |

"the quality of an object or substance with respect to light reflected by the object, usually determined visually by measurement of hue, saturation, and brightness of the reflected light; saturation or chroma; hue."
so both are. |

Black is the absence of color (and is therefore not a color)
White is the blending of all colors and is a color. |

Technically, neither black or white are colors because they are not represented in the light spectra. None of the elements produce black or white tones when light is refracted against the earth's atmosphere. Black is the darkest tone while white is the lightest. They are used for lighting or darkening the shade of colors, therefore they cannot be considered as colors, respectively.
Yes, I do understand what I just said, whether you do or not. |

The sum of all the colors of light add up to white. This is additive color theory.
So white is in fact a color. But black isn't a color. |

The answer is, none of them or colours, white, black and grey are all shades. I know grey was not a subject in question but I thought i'd add it. :3

| Yes, I suppose white could be considered a color since it is made up of all colors. |

There shades, White is a shade, Black is a shade, A proven fact. Scientist don't discuss colors, At least highly unlikely,
