| Meh, the TES series isn't about enclosed combat. |

Let's face it. TES has crap combat.
And don't compare TES's combat with Mount & Blade: Warband's combat. TES looks like the worst game of all time when it comes to combat when you compare.

| There was one in Whiterun but it was cut so Bethesda could make their precious 11/11/11 deadline. |

There are many good things about pre-Skyrim TES but combat is not among them, even in Skyrim. |

| TES's combat isn't that bad, its main problem is that it isn't weighty enough. It's MUCH more fun when you're sneaking around and taking enemies out Batman-style with a bow and dagger. |

@Imp- Huh, I always forget how much shorter Skyrim's development cycle was. Think of the wonders they could've worked with more time! They could've surpassed MORROWIND, for crying out loud! |

I tried that once
it didn't seem as fun to be a thief and an assassin in this game as it was in oblivion
back when you had to make a certain amount of money off of certain goods to progress in the Thief's guild, and when you had special challenges for special loot in the DB was the days |

I like how you can actually impale people and slit their neck from behind in Skyrim
has that assassin feel to it. I love sneaking around cities killing people by themselves with a quick stab through the back |

It isn't as fun to be in the thief/assassin's GUILD as it was in Oblivion. Bows are kind of annoying in Oblivion, they don't do enough damage and the main way to use them was to shoot once and then endlessly backpedal.

Currently I am playing as a spell sword kind of character. I am invested in One handed/Destruction/Light armor, and I haven't decided what else I should aim for
I find it the most fun for me right now, whereas in oblivion I played as a theif, sort of at least (I didn't understand half of the mechanics, and just did what I thought was fun) |

| Playing a warrior-mage mix always seems to be the path to boredom for me. I don't like leveling up every kind of skill and prefer limiting myself in some way. Of course, the battlemage/spellsword playstyle is INCREDIBLY empowering if you like to play that way. |

TES is just a spamclickfest if you're melee, a RUN RUN RUN SHOOT fest if you are ranged, CAST SPELL BUNNYHOP IN CIRCLES UNTIL YOU REGEN MAGICKA fest if you are magic.
In Mount & Blade: Warband there is a very complex melee system.
You can aim up, left, right, or stab. You can also parry all those, but you need to manually choose directions. If you have a shield, it automatically blocks and also stops arrows.
Some weapons deal more damage if you stab, some if you slash. Some weapons have a very long range, some require you to be in the enemy's face. Some weapons knock people unconcious, some weapons kill.
Also, the faster you are going the more damage you deal. Hitting the head is different from hitting the toe (Which can actually be a weak spot if they aren't wearing shoes) or hitting the chest. If an enemy is constantly blocking/parrying, you can kick him to stun him for less than a split second and land a hit. However the kick is such a short range that it's useless in active combat.
Ranged combat is different. There are bows, crossbows, and thrown weapons. Bows are quick to fire, but are nowhere near as accurate or powerful as crossbows or thrown weapons. They also lose accuracy the longer you aim. Crossbows deal massive damage, travel very far, and are very accurate, but have an EXTREMELY long reload. Thrown weapons are thrown fast and deal the most damage, but they are inaccurate. However some can be quickly used as a one-handed weapon.
There also is horse combat, but almost everything has been covered. It's speed based, harder to hit enemies, you can shoot and reload on a horse, and you are stunned for like 4 seconds if your horse dies when you're on it. You also are a much easier target for archers.
Mount & Blade: Warband is also a COMPLETELY unscripted open world that makes TES look awful.
War of the Roses is a game that expands upon Mount & Blade's combat. Better hit detection, better hitboxes, more realistic movement, expanded cusomization, a reload minigame for crossbows, lances that can break, much more satisfying hits, and long polearms/axes only deal damage if you hit with the blade part (Not the wood part).

Sorry, but Skyrim is much simpler in terms of combat. I prefer to keep it simple.
I still prefer TES over Mount & Blade |

@Over- First paragraph: If you play the game like that, you're definitely doing combat wrong. I play far more strategically than you do, apparently. Mount and Blade has great combat, but it's not very friendly to roleplayers who like to tell their character's story. |

If I play strategically, it's just more difficult, and not in a good way.
The most strategic thing I did was snipe an entire fort of Imperials from a hidden perch. They never knew what hit them.
I found Mount & Blade to be friendlier to roleplayers than TES. Why? Because M&B has very basic story, which allows a LOT of creativity as you fill in the blanks.
