Guys, I understand it's a classic, and it was revolutionary Heck, it's very nostalgic for me But when's the last time you've PLAYED it? The controls are so bad, and I don't know where I'm going. -- ≈Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!≈

Some games are bad but nostalgic, that makes it good in our opinion. I've never played GoldenEye (or owned an N64!), but an example of a game that I like but should've been improved is Theme Park World, which was like a kids' RollerCoaster Tycoon by the good ol' Bullfrog. |

Goldeneye 007 was a horrible FPS by 9 developers, and 8 of them never worked on a game before.
The only reason why people liked it so much is because it was one of the first popular console shooters

@Overrwatcher Exactly Bond controls like he has Down's Syndrome, and you can barely aim without getting turned into Swiss Cheese first -- ≈Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!≈ |

| If that's the case, then everything at and past Wii is outdated, which means hte games are awful, which is totally not the case. |

It was considered revolutionary...

@Rag No, many older games from the NES, SNES, Master, Genesis, Saturn, N64, Gamecube, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and heck, Atari and Commodore are great because they've aged well. Goldeneye hasn't even aged poorly, it hasn't aged at all. Almost like Conker, actually.

@milbert Yeah, the N64 controller does suck. Have a D-Pad OR a control stick, not both! And overall, the design's very odd, and it's pretty weak... I've broken my fair share of N64 controllers playing Mario Party, lemme tell ya. -- ≈Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!≈

How come consoles have always been behind when it comes to FPS games?
Doom came out 1993, which was considered THE most important game in PC gaming at that time. Ever since then, PC has been ahead with shooters. It has come to the point where PC Shooter and Console Shooter are two completely different genres.

lol
Goldeneye wasn't revolutionary, the only reason people liked it was because of it's multiplayer, so it was a big console shooter back in the hayday, but the pc still had bigger multiplayer capabilities. If you wanna see a real revolutionary FPS, play Half Life 1. I think the multiplayer also held 2 more players too.
also, i've personally had Goldeneye for a decade now, and I've never really liked it that much. The gameplay was bland, there was no variety in enemies etc. I personally found The World Is Not Enough to be a much better FPS. |

@Overrwatcher2 And most Doom ports (SNES, 32x, Jaguar) all had glaring problems with controls, graphics, or music. Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem, Half-Life, System Shock... PC shooters are evidently better. Even Battlefield is good. -- ≈Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!≈ |

Half-Life is the true definition of revolutionary.
Before Half-Life, shooters had a very basic paragraph of text in between levels for "story", guns, ammo, and powerups floated in the air and span in circles, there were almost no plot, and almost no scripted events.
Half-Life changed shooters. Hate linear scripted shooters like CoD? Blame Half-Life. Guns, Ammo, etc were in proper places (Next to a corpse, on a shelf, in an armory, etc). The story was built in as you played in a very subtle way. It was very plot-driven and scripted. There were no levels or fancy movement - You walked normally and you experienced EVERYTHING that Freeman experienced. It was a cinematic experience that nobody has EVER known in a shooter. All created by a very small development team known as Valve Software.

@Over I can't help but feel Half-Life 2's a little overrated... The story? Good, I guess. Gameplay? Good, but nothing amazing... Music and graphics? Good for the time... Gordon Freeman's an empty shell, yet people think he's a good character? Oh, oh.... noooooo..... -- ≈Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!≈
