I have been thinking about this for a while. Most first world countries don't have death sentences anymore; the highest is a life sentence. When we've gotten past the fact that Life Sentences are pretty much Death Sentences but the former dwindles on resources and makes fool out of us all, the next big question comes to 'Are Life Sentences really worth it?' If you have a life sentence with no chance of parole, isn't that just the same as a death sentence but where there is more suffering throughout? Is that really humane? Or is a quick death more humane?

I think death sentences are completely necessary.

Why not let them choose? If they are to be sentenced to something that basically removes their normal life either way, wouldn't it be more humane to let them decide if they would like to take on a new life in prison or end it all right away?
