Your ignorance is high. Let's look at the Eastern Conference Champions New Jersey Devils.
The Devils had the same amount of Minnesota players as Michigan players and USSR-born/Russian players.
In fact, that 1 player is the same amount of Lithuanians on the Devils.

and the runners up for the NCAA tournament was ferris state, who have 0 minnesota players on their roster
they have a player from missouri, but not a player from minnesota their roster is filled with michigan players
minnesota hasn't appeared in the championship game since 2003

Detroit was #4 in average attendance, Minnesota was #16.
The percentage of the building filled was #8 in the NHL in Detroit, Minnesota's was 18th.
