Long Night in Hell.
Chapter 5: Purge.
Lord Pain walked quickly through the long corridors of The Orion, followed by three tall Nafarian pure blood Honor Guards, clad in the heavier black and red armor variant. The lights signifying that the armor was currently being operable glowed in the halls of the Orion. Their names were Corinn, Vrost and Gin He mulled over what the Council had sent to him over his tac-pad. He was in complete disbelief how five of these simplistic human cities could push back a Nafarian defense force, and least believable was how another city managed to completely anhialate the Nafarian invasion force sent to it. He wondered how Krypka had failed him, she was one of his most prized apprentices. He lifted his holocard which allowed him access to the more restricted zones of the Orion, holding it up to the holoscanner. The holoscanner beeped once in recognition, and the doors slid open, revealing yet another long, dense grey hallway. At the end of the hallway was another door, guarded by two Nafarian honor guards, their grey-black armor, laced with hints of red shined under the lights in the hallway, each had a SG-12 in their hands, he motioned for Gin to hold position, Pain walked up to the doorway, grumbling under his breath about the apparent uselessness of the officers in charge of those six invasions. As he approached the door, the two honor guards stepped to the side and let Pain through, this door required no holo card, it simply opened at his presence, Pain entered the large, detailed room behind the doors to the loud arguments of the council members present to the meeting called only thirty minutes ago. The council chamber on board The Orion was not much different then the High Council rooms located on Nafaria itself or any other large Nafarian province, the only difference was the absence of the audience seats and the new circular formation of the council's chairs. Pain looked towards the council seats, six members were currently present headed by Supreme Field Marshal Tartarus Chi'zar, he still wore his battle helmet, the sleek red-grey metal reflected slightly under the lights of the room, followed by Tartarus were Field Marshal Zadanthar Ul'tamate, his straight black Hair stood at end in certain places, he was one of the few council members not putting input into the ongoing argument. A hologram took up the next space, a hologram representing Field Marshal Apexioz Nuk'Ezlon, his battle armor looked slightly beat up, his helmet was absent, and his grey hair lay neatly on his head, one of the few Nafarians who had gone grey at such a young age, or at all for that matter. Next to the hologram sat Imperial Marshal Meinrad, he was fiddling nervously with his uniform as he argued with Apexioz, next to him sat Imperial Marshal Hydra El'Zar, who was also in deep debate with Apexioz and Meinrad, finally, at the edge, next to Pain's assigned seat sat Imperial Marshal , as Pain began to move closer, he attracted the attention of Tartarus, eager to break the ongoing argument going on among the high council, Tartarus utilized this moment to interrupt them.
"Ah, Lord Pain." Tartarus said, rather loudly to silence the rest of the council. "Take your seat, were addressing the issue of the failed invasions as you should already know."
Lord Pain mildly nodded his head in Tartarus's direction in reply as he made his way to his seat, he sat down and looked in the direction of Tartarus, Vrost and Corrin took position at either side of him, Pain himself found this council meeting to be utterly useless and uncalled for, he had just been pulled out of battle for this simple situation, which also had a simple solution, the council was silent and looked towards Tartarus to start the session. Tartarus cleared his throat and stood up before he began to talk.
"Members of this rather small collection of councilors." He began. "we have run into a rather... large issue in the invasion of some of these cities, five of the invasions have been forced into retreat, the sixth..." He paused. "The sixth... was completely destroyed, the surviving units reported large pulse weapons being used by the humans on this planet... we have no idea exactly where they stand in comparison to our weapons." He paused for a bit and cleared his throat again before continuing. "Now it is up to us, the High Council to decide what to do with the ruins of their city, and the ruins of our soldiers."
As the last words escaped Tartarus's mouth, Apexioz spoke up. "I move we move in to make a second attempt to retake this city, there is still a chance that survivors are present... and protocol states we are to protect and save all survivors from failed invasions, I ca-"
"No! All of the cities must be burned! The safety of Nafarian technology is at stake!" Hydra interrupted
A look of shock spread over Apexioz's face before he replied, he seemed shocked by the very idea of burning any possible living Nafarian. "Hydra, so your saying you value our technology, our nonliving, non-feeling technology for the lives of possible hundreds of surviving Nafarians?"
"Its their lives, or facing a possible technology crisis, which could lead to our downfall." Hyrda said.
Apexioz looked like he were about to reply before Tartarus interrupted both of them, "Enough!" He stated. "This pointless arguing is going to get us no where closer to solving this issue, both of you make very valid points, but Hydra I must put my input as well, at most these humans are only going to get our small arms, even if they get their hands on these, the chances of them being able to recreate what they find is incredibly low, now, does anyone else have suggestions to end this crisis?"
Zedanthar broke from his silence, obviously done pondering in the corner of the room. "Lord Pain, are there any NSS agents available on the ground sir?"
Lord Pain looked towards Zedanthar and pondered whether he should tell his colleague the truth, if he had, he would probably be forced to do what he was already guessing Zedanthar was going to suggest. In his mind a plan that would take far too much time. He finally decided to tell the truth, knowing that it wouldn't end well on his behalf shall Tartarus discover the truth. "Yes there are some NSS agents on the planet's surface..." he said.
"well, are they currently available?" Zedanthat replied.
"Yes... there are three available agents..." Pain said, his voice growing agitated.
"well, what I suggest is possibly sending NSS squads to see the situation on these cities, and from there make appropriate actions, thus saving both our tech, and any possible survivor's lives."
The council begun to discuss among themselves in murmurs, discussing the possibility of such an idea, the idea in and of itself was an excellent idea, but Lord Pain knew it had one serious flaw, in the time it took for the three stand-alone NSS agents to make it to all six cities and then report their findings to the council would take far too long. By that time Coalition forces probably would have already scavenged any functional Nafarian technology, and possibly reproduced it. Lord Pain looked about the room, he had to stop this idea from coming to fruition and so far he could only be sure that Hydra would support any Council suggestion he announced as Zedanthar had won over the rest of the crowd. Lord Pain quickly thought of what he possibly could do to win the High Council back over into his, and Hydra's favor, when finally, he thought of it. Krypka's death could be the key to saving Nafarian technology from reaching the wrong hands. He stood up for emphasis and began to make his statement. His statement that would either cost Nafarians loads of technology that could turn the tide of the entire war, or fail, and lead to the failed invasion of this entire planet. "Members of the High Council. I will stand and make this last statement before you make your decisions." He began, his voice boomed across the walls of the council chamber as he spoke, gaining the attention of the entire High Council. "while there is the survivor's protocol which states that any known survivors in enemy territory are to be saved, I must put my vote in with Hydra." He paused before continuing. "Our technology, and the purge protocol that protects it overrides the survivor's protocol... especially when a dreadnought is listed as KIA." He paused for a second and looked at the reaction it had on the council. A new wave of talking went among the High Council, Tartarus looked to Lord Pain with new-found interest. Lord Pain continued. "Until we can verify that Commander Krypka Un'Zeal's armor self destructed upon, until we can verify her armor can not be salvaged at the hands of these humans, we must initiate purge protocol and burn the entire city, the NSS agents will take FAR too long to give us any feedback, and the operation is far too risky..." Pain sat down, satisfied with what he had done, Vrost and Corinn stood at his sides, shifting uncomfortably in their armor, as they usually did when Pain raised his voice. The Council was in full debate, Pain smiled as he found most of the Council had begun to see things his way. Tartarus interrupted them in the middle of the debate obviously having heard enough.
"Enough." Tartarus said. "we now must finish this, those in favor of Lord Pain's plan are to make it known now." 5 hands shot up in the air, all but Apexioz had put their favor into Pain's suggestion.
"Then it is settled..." Tartarus began. "First thing in the morning, fleets with orders to burn all of the listed cities to the ground will be sent out.. Dismissed!" Lord Pain got up and nodded to Corrinn and Vrost, they pulled up into position behind him, Pain walked to the doorway to the vast hallways of the Orion, the doors opened and Gin waited outside, gave a crisp salute to Lord Pain and joined the formation Vrost an Corinn had formed, Pain's thoughts returned to Krypka, the person he considered to be his daughter, he wondered how she possibly could have been outsmarted by these humans, how she could have possibly been outsmarted by these humans. Had he and the rest of the the Nafarian High Command truly underestimated them? |

| From what I see. We could just send NSS members to quickly sweep the city to find missing people. If anyone was left alive. The NSS members could take the soldiers to safety and send a signal to burn down the cities then. |

| ^Yes but as Krypka, being a dreadnought vvas deployed, they vere a bit more rushed in their decission making, since the condensed version of ch.5 vas rather small, I could have and should have mentioned that a little bit more, and vvill in the uncut and revised versions, bassically a Dreadnought's armor is nearly industructable and nearly every faction vants to get their hands on it, leading to the purge protocal being declared. |
