They get their parents to buy it for them. Most of us have played games under-aged, but difference being is that I didn't make an ass of myself when playing them by screaming down a microphone...
...granted, online multiplayer didn't exist for the games I played, but you get the point. |

Because they think they are mature enough to handle it. Most of my friends were playing Halo when they were 9 because their parents thought they were mature enough to handle it. There's hardly even any cussing. The violence is pretty cartoony as well. |

I don't know about kids of 3 years, but it's called acceptable content. Each parent has their own definition of what is acceptable for their children, and some feel their children is capable of handling "more mature"(I use that loosely...) content.
ESRB is a consumer guide, not a law. |

The rating is just a recommendation thing. It doesn't mean you NEED to be 17 or 18+, it's just recommended, really. If you can stomach gore or aren't phased by cussing, you're pretty much good to go.

My parents don't consider it law, but if my sister asked to play Halo a few years ago, say 3 years ago, they would say "No." BIG emphasis on no. |
