I was in a server trying every hat on ROBLOX at once, and it crashed after a few thousand hats. I think it was due to all of the connectors in the hats. Perhaps the devs could make the client better able to handle physics lag?

Connectors are the devil. I built a small plugin that goes through every part in a place and smooths it because of this.

@sirsavary Amen, set your surfaces to smooth and break all the joints.

I still don't understand the staff's fascination with creating thousands of connectors between two anchored bricks. That's why the egg hunt this year was so laggy, they had more than 10,000 unnecessary connectors as I recall.

How are you storing your hats? Did you try to put them all on at once (It sounds like you did)? Because putting on 2000 hats at once (even though TF2 may have TAUGHT you to do this), doesn't mean it will go well for you (In real life, or ROBLOX).

If the general rule of thumb for a game is to have less then 2000 parts, then you're probably not going to get more then a few thousand hats. Remember they're meshes, (Many polygons), welded to your character (So your computer has to send the physics of 2000 parts to every other client, relative to your movements), and then it's all textured (So it takes more rendering).

Looking at your player with that many hats was probably enough to crash the person's computer for a while. (See what TF2 does to you)

Seranok, have you tried going outside and participating in some sort of "physical" activity? I know it might be hard, but if you get good at it, you might get signed and then you can thousands of real hats.

I have tried this thing you call "physical activity" once or twice but it never seemed to garner the same quantity of hats. So I gave it up.

Physics are still calculated to anchored parts, don't they?

Also I don't think connectors should even be touched in the code if the part is anchored.

Seranok, just don't cache them all. You know how you hate cache anyway. Just delete a hat that somebody hasn't worn in 3 minutes in some fancy hat manger or just delete it straight away.

Off topic, but all my rage at all the people using plural verbs for the word "physics". It's a singular noun that takes the plural form of other nouns, so you should be using singular verbs with it. For example, the title should be "ROBLOX Physics just doesn't scale" (more accurately, it should be "ROBLOX's Physics just doesn't scale"). If it helps you remember, pretend you're always saying "physics engine" when you use the word physics, so you would think "ROBLOX's Physics engine just doesn't scale," but omit the "engine" when you actually write/say/type it. /rant

It's probably because of all the textures. I have a script that loads them also, and I can never get too far down the list.
