I support the death penalty because it psychologically discourages criminals and keeps society safer.

"I support the death penalty because it psychologically discourages criminals and keeps society safer."
Except it is often that crime rates do not decrease or are not deterred at all:
Crime rates for different states WITH the death penalty: 9.5 9.94 9.51 9.69 9.23 8.59 7.72 7.09 6.51 5.86 5.70 5.82 5.82 5.91 5.71 5.87 5.90 5.83 5.72 5.26 5.00 Crime rate WITHOUT death penalty: 9.16 9.27 8.63 8.81 7.88 6.78 5.37 5.00 4.61 4.59 4.25 4.25 4.27 4.10 4.02 4.03 4.22 4.10 4.05 3.90 4.01

The death penalty does not discourage criminal activity, and it's more expensive than life without parole.
Fact. |

"and it's more expensive than life without parole."
Not so sure on that one. Got any raw statistics? |

How is it more expensive to kill someone then to hold them, feed them, clothe them and provide facilities for them?

I was thinking this, though to be fair, to execute someone in a modern fashion, you do need expensive drawgz and the facilities. |

Why can't we just cut their heads off?
They die either way.

But you're going to kill someone.
In fact lethal injections are said to hurt more than beheading. Apparently you feel as if your heart "explodes"

The point is you're going to kill them.
Cutting their heads off and dumping them in a pit is no different then wasting money on drugs, syringes, caskets and a burial.

Uh, yes it is.
For one, drugs severely reduce the pain.
For two, it isn't nearly as dignified. |

Their families????
Do you really think the family are going to be able to watch guts spilling everywhere? |

Because murderers deserve to be comfy when they die.

You mean like the people they murdered? Do you think the murderer went out of his/her way to ensure his victim was comfy? Maybe he even got the victim some chamomile to calm his nerves.

Report of the California Commission on the Fair Administration of Justice
“The additional cost of confining an inmate to death row, as compared to the maximum security prisons where those sentenced to life without possibility of parole ordinarily serve their sentences, is $90,000 per year per inmate. With California’s current death row population of 670, that accounts for $63.3 million annually.”
Using conservative rough projections, the Commission estimates the annual costs of the present (death penalty) system to be $137 million per year. The cost of the present system with reforms recommended by the Commission to ensure a fair process would be $232.7 million per year. The cost of a system in which the number of death-eligible crimes was significantly narrowed would be $130 million per year. The cost of a system which imposes a maximum penalty of lifetime incarceration instead of the death penalty would be $11.5 million per year.

Just type 'Costs of the death penalty' into Google. |

Since I don't believe in the death penalty in the first place, this argument is obsolete to me, anyway. |

| With the same argument, you could suggest that clothing is completely unnecessary in the summer. |
