It very well might.
Even if there's no problem normally, Minecraft servers use a reasonable amount of bandwidth, and if you have metered internet then going over your bandwidth limit would likely get you throttled by your ISP. |

| When I first started my server I ran it off my home connection. Bottled the pipe very quickly. Also, running a minecraft server is the absolute worst life choice you can ever make. Seriously. Just go play on someone else's. |

| I have a 300MBps router. On it I can host around 25 with absolutely no lag. On my other 100MBps router, I could host around 15. It really doesn't affect bandwidth too much |

1. Get extremely high-speed internet.
2. Buy a stand-alone server.
3. Make the server separate from your regular network by creating a DMZ. |

>running minecraft on your home connection >not on your 100mbit/s server with 3GHz CPU, 2GB RAM, 100GB HDD, 3TB Bandwidth
It's a pretty sweet deal for <$9/mo. |

Actually, $9/mo. can be pretty steep for an income of $0/mo. like mine.
Let's do the math:
9/0
Huh, the pricing is so steep, that the slope is undefined.

You can make money off of hosting a server though.

I have a friend who had an MC server that he made money off of.
He almost became a moderator of another server that's making a killing off of it right now. The internet is an easy place to get money, you just need to know how.

If you end up renting a server, I'm sure your friends would be willing to contribute to the cost.
Since you apparently have high-speed internet, the server shouldn't noticeably slow down your regular use. The only issue is when you reach your monthly internet cap and your isp slows you down.
I think generally a minecraft server uses 100mb/client/hour. Try and find out your monthly bandwidth allowance and how much of that you typically use, then see if you can fit the server's usage in that.
At the very least you should run it for a little while and see if it causes any problems.
The actual problems are having a good enough computer to handle it, and whether you know how to port forward or not.
Also btw this is the Roblox scripting discussion forum, not the craftmine server forum nor your diary. |

My server's monthly bandwidth usage is 200-500GB's (Heavy fluctuation).
And yes, you can make money off of the internet, and off a minecraft server, but not many people understand the concept of "man-hours". |
