Discuss & explain.
I personally like it. I do have some pet peeves, though:
* Put a button where the start menu is * Tutorial for new users * Ability to choose whether to go in Metro or Desktop on startup * Move power buttons to the user instead of Settings
Anyone else?

| Try GNOME 3 on Fedora and you'll understand why Metro and especially the old Windows interface have both completely failed. |

By far the biggest problem for me:
NOT designed for systems with a lot of screen space. As someone with dual screens, and large ones at that, it's really unfortunate that I can't better make use of all that screen space in it. To the point where I'm not going to put it on my Desktop until there's some utilities to mitigate that.
For laptops + tablets it's great, or even desktops with smaller single screens it's not that bad, but the dual screen support is just not what it needs to be. |

First reactions: holy crap
I still prefer XFCE because of its customization, though. |

Metro is a flawed UI, and I've argued that a good reason why Windows Phone never took of is because of its UI. Although Metro would fit well with, for example, a website, Metro is horrible in terms of customization. People like iPhones and Androids because you could customize the home screen, which is the heart of the phone. In Metro, you could only change the color of monochromatic squares. If Apple and Google removed the feature for setting wallpapers in their mobile OSes, I'm sure there would be many angry people.
Also, if you look at Android, Google Apps (and other apps too) have gorgeous icons. Maybe iOS too. I'm not a fan of iOS's "glossy rounded corner icons everywhere" concept but it really depends on the icon artist when it comes to iOS - the Facebook app has a decent icon, I will admit (I have a vendetta against Facebook). Windows Phone is limited to squares, and the squares are boring, monochromatic images and text. People aren't used to seeing colorful boxes on a rectangular phone touchscreen.
Also, Segoe UI, which is the font of Metro, is lifeless and boring, although it may be simplistic. Take Android's Roboto font for example, which has a playful look and feel and iOS's font, which isn't the prettiest but it works. |

Unlike Tenal, I really like the stylistic choices for the look. I'd much rather have that style over the existing way of doing stuff. I think that content-over-chrome is the way of the future for software development. Just look at how nice the office 2013 UI is using that style.

| If they allowed you to disable metro and the charms menu, and readded the start button and removed all the windows live stuff, then I would instantaneously choose it. |

Yeah, I really like the content-over-chrome thing too. I really don't like metro though.
Everything is so clean. :3 |

| Metro is difficult to disable in the latest preview. So yes, you kinda do. |

| If you can easily disable metro in windows 8, along with the "reverse uac" - I'll totally use it. |

| I'm a fan of having everything hooked to everything. My TV, laptop, desktop, cellphone and tablet are all hooked up to each other and work seamlessly. I don't care for high polished graphics, it's like polishing poop. Sure it looks great, but it's still poop. I'm looking forward to Windows 8, and will likely install in on my laptop and tablet, but will leave Windows 7 on my desktop because of the issue Stravant mentioned up above. If it doesn't fit on a dual monitor setup, it's not going to fit on a tri monitor setup. As for my server farm, I'm going to be sticking with Debian 6. |

| I'm only here to finish what I started. Then I will transform into a rocketship and blast off into space. Actually, I should post that thread. |

| Metro is just gross. If I get Windows 8, the first thing I will do is find out how to disable Metro. If not, I will use the "Desktop" interface button as soon as I logon. |

Truth : Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Reality : Microsoft and people like metro, whilst others don't. This proves the saying is true. Many people's views on what is beautiful and whatnot is very opinionated.

"laptops + tablets it's great"
In my opinion I don't even think it's great for laptops....Unless you have like a 14inch screen (Maybe even 15 inch)
17inch screen with the Metro theme would look pretty bad.
I don't actually like the overall design...It looks like someone just made random images and stuck them in random places and re-sized them and then changed the background. |
