Following issues across all nations, all significant space programs have fallen into decay. In the wake of this, small private space programs have been created, with the single goal of providing themselves as the next major power, at least in the field of astronautics.
The various programs are privately funded, running off funding provided by various benefactors. Further funding provided by companies with tasks for said programs. Funding is as such limited, causing many of the programs to specialize in specific fields. The resulting aftermath is a new industry revolving around these private astrological programs.
The programs, in constant competition, are naturally trying to sabotage each other, stealing technological advances, perhaps even doing direct sabotage to a launch. the resulting aftermath is a very competitive market, where only the most efficient in their work can sustain existence. The eventual goal to be of course, the top program to go to in a global sense.
-- Companies --
New Horizon Corporation: The New Horizon specializes in rocket engines, fuel and computer guidance. Many smaller companies buy their engines and computer systems for their own use. The New Horizon Corporation is eagerly pursuing manned missions to the moon and other planets. Owned by Robot304.
Trans-Stellar International: Specialists in Habitation Units, in orbit or in hostile environments. Also moves other companies satellites and other objects into a Graveyard Orbit so that they do not affect future missions. For a fee of course. Trans-Stellar is eagerly working on getting technology to move to other planets, or even other stellar systems in the far future. Owned by Max1029384756.
DHAN: They like to say it stands for Destruction Hotwire Association of the Nation, which makes absolutely no sense, but it actually stands for "Doesn't Have A Name." Their main goal is to become a commercial space airliner within the next 100 years, and they will stop at nothing to do it, for the owner had it in his father's will to have a commercial space Airliner after his favorite show being "Star Trek." Owned by Misterio587.
Polaris Singularity Limited: Their exact specialization is unknown, Though they offer significant surveillance and communication systems, along with advanced robotics, This is only furthered by known ties to military organizations. The Corporation maintains a extremely limited staff, along with tight security leaving it rather secretive among all the corporations. Owned by slipwing.
-- Mechanics --
Each corporation will start with 20 million in funds.
Payment for activities will be scaled realistically.
Difficult and larger activities cost more.
Payments and expendatures are dictated by Max1029384756.
-- Rules --
1) Each of the four corporations is controlled by an admin. You may not create or control a corporation.
2) No godmodding. If you godmod, we will ignore your posts.
3) You may roleplay as an astronaut for a company, with consent of owner.
4) Put "the space race" in Other on your Character Sheet.

Today was going to be a bright day for the New Horizon Corporation. Today was the launch of their first manned rocket, the Vanguard I. A lot was riding on her success. It would decide whether world governments and private investors would invest in New Horizon.
The sleek yet practical rocket sat motionless on the launch pad, nose pointed towards the heavens above. It would not be long before it would be among those heavens as well.
"60 seconds to launch. Disconnecting Vanguard I from ground power."
The seconds ticked by.
"45 seconds to launch. Engine and boosters primed."
"30 seconds to launch. Flight computer locked in."
10...
9...
8...
7...
6...
5...
4...
3..

1...
The rocket lurched towards the skies, a brilliant display of white-hot flame and smoke beneath. Within less than a second, it had cleared the launch tower and began its ascent. Ground control cheered as the Vanguard I grew smaller and smaller in the great blue sky. |

@Boomer
Post a CS and join one of the companies as an astronaut. Mine, in fact, needs one right now. |

Trans-Stellar's engineers and scientists on its payroll hold their breath. Months of sweat and blood into this project, its success would determine if this corporation would succeed or sink like a stone in the lake. The countdown was a long one for everyone watching, although the fifteen seconds went by fast, it was a nightmare to them.
They waited for the Aegis MK. I rocket to lift off and ignite its first stage solid boosters. The fire ignited below the rocket as it lifted off, ten metres per second... twenty... thirty... the rocket gained speed, before dropping its boosters and switching to its liquid fuel. It continued to speed up, executing a gravity turn at 10 kilometres above the surface of Terra and dissapearing into the sky. |

Name: May Cambry
@ge (above 18): 32
Gender: Male
Physical Appearance: He has a large nose planted on his oval face, with light grey eyes. He's about 6'4", (but he can never get a chance to truly measure himself because MAX WONT STOP WHIPPING HIM! Jk.) He has a bulky frame, which is not very heavily muscled. He has small red lips, and a blonde buzz cut, which he keeps trying to shave off. It's not very common you see an African American with natural Blonde hair.
Company: BHAN (he's kinda the owner.)
Biography: The only important part is in the BHAN description.
Roleplaying Sample (20+ words): I looked over my shoulder, to the massive crowd behind me. Most of these people were working in the Plasma Furnaces, and you can see why that job had a low mortality rate. Others were rich boat lovers, spoiled children, or just poor people that used up all of their money for this one comfort. It was sad, the su.cky economy of today. I looked out into the massive New York Harbor, gazing at the massive ship, The Titanic. This was going to be it's last voyage, after going back and forth for 200 years. The President appeared on giant screens, with that fake grin on his face. I mean, it was seriously like it was plastered on with surgery.
He bellowed, "AND MAY THE TITANIC SAIL FOR IT'S LAST TIME!"
I had an uneasy feeling as I stepped on the deck....
Other: DEM ENDERMANS! He has a very deep gravelly voice. |

| 10 minutes later, the Vanguard I had reached its orbital burn. Several minutes before it had shed its empty boosters. The orbit extended around the planet and the Vanguard was now left to watching the beauty and vastness of outer space. |

(Try to be serious, please. But yeah, you're accepted.)
"Ground Control to Vanguard I, please start video record." came the crackle over the hissing static of the astronaut's headphones.
"Roger Ground Control, beginning video transmission." The astronaut replied before reaching for the onboard video camera, flicking the "on" button and recording. He took several minutes scanning the capsule around him and showing off the zero gravity. At the end of the transmission, the astronaut stuck the video camera lens to the capsule's window. |

| The Aegis continues on its path, discharging stage after stage. Its orbit is comparable to a Molniya orbit, taking it high above the northern hemisphere of Terra. As it completes its orbital burn, the rocket is left with enough fuel to deorbit from its pass over the southern polar region. |

The Head of Polaris Singularity sat at his desk, Two board members to each side. Watching a screen on the wall, on the screen was the MK I Solaris Rocket. Only a Two stage rocket, Though attached to a set of four boosters intended for launching. The Rocket sat in its silo like launch pad, Half raised out and prepped for launch. A slight breath was taken as the boosters were engaged, Flames erupting from the Vent Tunnel. On board the rocket was a Single pilot, One of only three in the companies dossier. The Rocket Burnt through the air rather smoothly, The boosters burning out after nearly Twenty seconds. Releasing as the High power Main stage fired...
Burst fire resulted in the booster Stages exploding, the CEO looked towards a man sitting to the side. The project head, who took a deep gulp. The explosion though didn't harm the rocket, being just far enough away. instead only singing the bottom of the Rocket. The Solaris continued further into the air, Reaching acceptable speeds. the CEO tapped a button on the desk, a second screen lit up bellow the first. Displaying current technical data. The room was rather silent as they watched, all waiting to see how the First rocket would work... |

"Ground Control to Vanguard I, that video is beautiful, reading it great. We are now beginning retroburn." The capsule slowly rotated through the void and once again burned its engine, fire spewing from the nozzle. After a few minutes, the fuel was cut off and the capsule was left to re-enter the atmosphere.
"Vanguard I be advised, communications will be unavailable during re-entry. Good luck." the transmission gave way to the static as the capsule was engulfed by flame. |

The Orion Prepared for flight. I thought this was a horrible name, because he was a hero formed by Urine and cloth. But it was good enough.
10 minutes until countdown, I open up a radio feed with the pilot. "How's it going in there?" I ask.
"OK, but the suit's kinda hot." He replied. "So, what exactly am I doing?"
"Nothing Much. All you're doing is going straight up beyond the atmosphere, then straight back down. Well, not straight back down, you might land somewhere in the middle of Texas, But we'll have it all figured out by the time you crash-I mean get back. Bye!" I killed the feed. Of course, this would not be what would happen, because we had it planned to land in an establishment outside of Cape Canaveral. |

The Aegis continues its orbit, coming to the southern pole. It uses its RCS system to align to an angle to deorbit. It fires up its thrusters and quickly has its orbit brought down, it realigns and fires again to bring its orbit to the lower middle of the Pacific ocean.
The crew waits several minutes as the ship enters the atmosphere. The first stage parachutes are deployed as the Aegis's capsule hits the upper atmosphere to work as a drag chute. They help slow the capsule down, although are detached about 80 kilometres above sea level. As those parachutes are detached, the second and final stage chutes are deployed. They open and the pod descends into the atmosphere, splashing down at a safe speed. |

The capsule had now slowed down enough that communications could get through.
"Ground Control, this is the Vanguard I, deploying drag parachute." "Vanguard I, we read you loud and clear. Glad to have you home, son." Audible cheers could be heard in the background.
The word that the mission was a success reached the New Horizon board almost immediately. There were much laughter and tears of joy.
Today was a good day. |

Eleven Minutes later, Orion Launched. The sight was beautiful. It flew straight up with perfect accuracy, and disappeared out of sight. It would but up there orbiting for approximately Twenty-Four hours. When it left the atmosphere, it automatically turned on the video feed. The pilot was experiencing lots of gravity going up, but as soon as it leveled, he would be experiencing Null-gravity. He lifted his fist with tons of force and made a thumbs up sign. He attempted to smile. "Glad to see you didn't die in a fiery explosion!" I say into the radio. Then the rocket slowly stopped going up, and the Pilot could move freely.
"Yeah, thanks, May. I was talking with Control and said I'd be landing safely in Florida."
Later, he made more comment, cause he was getting bored. "Using the bathroom's kinda weird, cause sometimes it just floats back up." and so on. |

The Solaris Breached high Altitude, before Finally burning out the Main stage. the Pilot finally spoke on communications "all systems clear, Green lights for Main separation" With that the Main engine disengaged. The Solaris breaching into orbit only moments after after. The pilot continued "Engaging Braking thrusters, Aligning to Orbital path" small thrusters sprung to life, slowing the Solaris down as it was brought into a Standard Orbit. Drifting slowly in orbit as the Pod turned towards the planet. The Video feed switching to a Camera system in the Tip of the pod, as a Protective covering is Withdrawn. The CEO and the Board heads watched as a Position was marked. a Board member stating "we delayed...now were late...someone launched before us"
The CEO just gave a sigh, then said "it maters not, Continue with Standard Flight plan..." With that he gave a nod to the project Leader, who quickly left the room. tapping a button on his desk the screen turned off. the board members looked between each other, stating "So far the Launch was successful, though We'll see how it handles at Re-entry..." another stated "Who ever designed the boosters should be fired...preferably WITH those faulty boosters" The CEO stated "Were not firing them, Were lucky those boosters worked as intended. as I recall someone Shoved the Project through before it was ready...just for a quick launch" |

| The crew of the Aegis is retrieved, and they are brought back to corporate HQ. Engineers continue work on a cheap, reliable, workhorse rocket as well. The publicity for all the corporate space launches gives good media exposure as well, contracts are waited for from governments or private organizations. |

(I want to be one of those guys who want to simulate stuff, though. But, I'd like to ask a question or two:
1. Can I kind of work like a mercenary for hire? I like all 4 companies equally, and I hate choosing.
2. Is there pie?
3. If I can be a mercenary, what do I put in "Company?" ((Or whatever it's called.))
Thanks for taking your time to read and answer these questions) |
