TRA War: Stories From the Front Pt4 Chapter 1: GERONIMO! Lance Corporal Thomas Scott RIC Airfield/Somewhere in FEAR Territory I looked back at our base, paratroopers moving into their respected C-130's. Today it is our turn to take the fight to the enemy. We sat on the ground with packs and all, PFC Park handed out air-sickness pills on order of 2nd LT Wright. "God bless you all, I will see you in the assemble area.", LT Wright said. He went down the line and helped us up. We clambered into the C-130. The AA crews watched as we took off. PFC Vickers eyes were swelled, almost to the point of tears. I was 2nd in the stick. LT Wright stood up at the end of the seats. Half way into the dark and gloomy journey I walked over to the side door, I sat head against the wall, legs infront of the door way. I looked out into the sky, hundreds upon hundreds of massive silhouetted C-130's filled the sky. Over 10,000 paratroopers were about to descend into enemy held territory. Then the red light flashed on, "STAND UP, HOOK UP", S/SGT Riggins yelled. "Equipment Check!", "13 ok, 12 ok, 11 ok.......". I yelled, "2 Ok!". Then the door opened, air flooded in to the plane. Then our plane started to take AA fire, "WE GOTTA GET THE F OUTTA HERE!!!", CPL Ruxer yelled. "WE WAIT FOR THE GREEN LI...", SGT Thompson yelled as we took a burst to the side. "WE WAIT ANY LONGER THERE WON'T BE A F'IN GREEN LIGHT", he yelled back. PVT Applegate got hit, he was dead before we noticed, the flames crept around his body. Then the green light flashed on. "GO, Go, GO, LETS GET THE F OUTTA HERE", I yelled. LT Wright looked back before he jumped out, "GERONIMO!!!!", he screamed as he jumped out of the plane. We all screamed, "GERONIMO". "Sticks in the wind, go go", the pilot shouted over the intercom. I jumped out of the airplane, the shock of the deploying canopy made my leg bag fall. I looked around gently parachutes descended all around. I glided away from a wreaked plane. I landed in a tree not far from a farm house.
Chapter 2: The tree I hung there, dangling from a tree. My legs felt like ripe plums as all of the blood rushed to my legs. Then I heard a voice, "Hello...?", he yelled out. Then from the tree line on my right a RNW soldier rifle in hand strolled over to me, I played dead for a while. Then he raise his rifle...*CRacK* A bullet slammed into his shoulder he limped, "Aaacgh", he screamed. *CrACK* Thank me for the second shot later a PFC from another division said as he approached from Causeway No. 1. He shot the limb holding me up. I fell 10 feet to the ground. I stayed there to regain the felling in my legs. "Where you heading?", PFC Paige asked. "Zionsville", I responded. "I saw a sign back there, Ste. Michael or something, well were both a long way from our objectives so I'll stick with you till I find some if my guys.", he said. "Well I know one thing, were in enemy territory, he was a FEAR ally" , I said. He tossed me a silver 45. I took the dead soldiers rifle, he was still grasping it, ready to shoot. We found LT Wright on the ground he was across a stream with SGT Thomas, PVT Van Toon, S/SGT Riggins, and CPL Ruxer. We chirped our clickers to tell if we were friendlies, he waited a couple seconds. *Click Click Click*, "Flash!", I said, "Thunder", S/SGT Riggins said. "We were about to shoot ya", PVT Van Toon said. "Well I would have been mighty ticked", Paige said. They had brought CPT Smith our Battalion S-2, he said that we were to eliminate the guns firing at the estuary so that our infantry could land. We moved along the road trees on both sides, we encountered sporadic machine gun fire all the way to the town of Augustine. We meet up with October Company out side the town.
Chapter 3: The 105's We moved into the town, a priest greeted us, he said, "Take, take.", as he handed out drinks. We moved into the town house by house, corner by corner. We met up with the rest of Hotel Company, our platoon moved up the road, the other two on each side. I walked behind PVT O'Neil, we moved up the road single file. Right as I walked past a car, a MG about 100 yards away opened fire, *ratta tat rataaa tat raaat tat*. O'Neil was hit in the lower throat he flung back into my arms. I grasped him and hid behind the car, "MEEEDIC!", I screamed. A medic pulled the bullet out, lucky it had bounced off his collarbone, and had just missed his jugular. He applied a bandage. I cradled him, face white with splashes of thick red blood on his white cheeks. Once a mortar knocked out the machine gun nest a stretcher-bearer came and took him away. I grabbed my helmet, I looked down, it had stopped a piece of shrapnel. The piece of lead warped the helmet. I kissed my helmet and put it back on. We had reached the first hedgerow, beyond it lay the 105's. We surrounded it on 3 sides, one flank would fire into a MG covering their rear, and one would give cover as the 3rd flank would charge into the trenches. I looked over at SGT Thomas was still adjusting his sights. A load crack roared out, the MG team was down the 3rd let out a yell and climbed into the damp trenches. They spiked the guns with some TNT, the barrels and loading chambers were now useless. LT. Patrickson took the lead on the 2nd 105, most of the men in his attack force were cut to ribbions by a MG in the trench. He clambered out and put a bullet throught the gunners brain. He hosed the 105 and waved. We rushed over, "Spike the guns", he screamed over the clatter of the lead bullets. Then a loud ping rour out, Patty had his face in his in the ground. "Am I alright?", he asked, "yeah it just nicked me". "Ok iron skull, I never knew helmets stoppes bullets.", S/SGT Riggns yelled. We pulled out from the guns, the forth was only spiked by a grenade, neither the less it was unmanned.
Chapter 4: The Hornets Nest We slowly crept through the knee high grass, mortar shells burst off in the distance. S/SGT Riggins spotted a MG nest about 100 yards to the left of the field. I took point, I crept forward in the cold air, I pulled the pin from my grenade. It exploded as one ran out. We was thrown up 10ft and landed with a thud. I looked over at what they were covering about a company or 2 were guarding a bridge head, 2 MG's and 2 tanks. I took what was left of the rocket lunchers, I handed them out, our now 30 men against that. "FIRE, GIV'EM ALL YOU GOT!", LT Wright screamed. A machine gun was cut up, its crew dead. The other had one of the crew take a piece of metal to the neck, it decapitated him. The 1st tank wheeled its turret around, the pillbox burst into pieces. A rocket round hits its fuel tanks, the men screamed as they jumped into Causeway No. 1. The second got hit by a rocket and had its track burst off, and sprawled out on the ground. The bridge lay silent, bodies bobbed in the water. Men were strewn about, it was a mess. We crept along the lakes edge it was on fire, it was beautiful but erie in the sunset.
Chapter 5: We moved into a small town, after we had slept in a abandoned barn for the night. Of the 300 men we had assaulting the town now only 26 were left. We were battered and beaten, but proud. We marched into the town, a woman waving a white sheet opened the window and laid it out. "I don't think we should be here", I murmured. The MG set up in a cafe, as we moved into the residential district. There was a loud bang, PVT Schmidt was dead, killed by a hidden sniper. Then a tank burst through a building down the road, S/SGT Riggins was hit. I carried him into a home, a wife looked at me in shock. "Please help my friend, hes banged up.", I said. "Please hold me.", he said leaning against the stairs. His face went white. "NO, NO, NO!", "Stay with me Robert, C'mon", I shouted. I kicked the floor in anger, one of my best friends had just died. I ran out side, a young soldier was in the doorway, he ran around the corner, *bang bang BANG* my gun screeched. He dropped with a thud on the cold sidewalk. I found the rest 13 of us survived, we made a final stand. After hours of fighting tooth and nail we surrendered. We lined up as ordered, CPL Ruxer burst out and grabbed an officer and pulled the pin on a grenade. "GOOOOOO!!!...", he screamed before he blew. We ran as fast and as far as we could. We stopped at a decrepit building. For us 12 it wasn't over, by far

@Mericful I use alot of BoB, BiA, and WWIIinHD in my stories as references, like when their in the plane, thats from either BiA:RtH30 or BiA: EiB in the beginning. But that scene is just a reference to paratroopers in general, back then the deploying chute would knock it off and make it fall. |
