I've heard talk of a reputation system, real comments get up voted, while spammers stay at the bottom.

Ehhh... Possibly each original comment gets archived, and if there are several same comments, the new ones and original one gets removed. Well that could reduce spam allot, but of course you can do small changes to copied comment(But most likely that wouldn't happen).

hmmm... maybe a captcha to avoid spam bots and then filter duplicate comments. Still possible to spam, but that could reduce it.

just remove the comments feature entirely from ROBLOX made hats, gears, shirts, pants, places, etc.

what is the point of comments on ROBLOX stuff anyway? any supportive comments will just be drained out with "cool", "test this gear at my place!1!", or "omg free roblox obc here: www.roblox.com/scam".

I would propose the use of a Bayesian-styled spam filter. Since it's already used and is proved to be powerful, it can sit quite nicely in such a comment-spam event.

The Bayesian filtering method grabs a list of tokens and distinguishes them to be spam or non-spam through Bayesian inference. Out of 1000 messages, less than 5 are ever false positives.

Get some mods who would clean it all up T_T
I would.
But also a better filter. Cause it sucks.

soodocode

if find(comment, "post this on") then
YouAreASpammer(comment)
end

Implement my filter and refilter every comment in the site. Take it offline while doing this so it works quicker and no problems occur.

Utilize the report system, obviously mods can't go through all the comments, but users can.

Make some sort of notice on the rules or something, saying spamming comments = bans. Then, actually RESPOND to the reports.

to be honest, why are you worried about the comments section anyway?

what about those copied games on the front page?

what about those games on the front page who's owners give fake thumbnails and updates?

shouldn't those be of top prioritiy?

@Six. I don't really think, that roblox cares about community that much... Well it's kind of ruined now, because mature community got replaced with kiddos derping all over games.

I KNOW!

When somebody reports a spam comment and it is confirmed to be spam by a moderator, add something to the filter, so you get a filter that learns!

The moderator chooses what text is spam and then it gets added.

However, a filter that is actually SMART, and can find out if one spam is very similar to another would take lots of processing.

Since most of these spammers are fr00bs, you could do all the CPU-heavy spam checking on the client side, but you would have to then communicate with the server to find if it was a filtered comment, so basically this idea fails.

Oh dear...

Depends on the type of comment spam.

If it's the "copy and paste to get a million R$" type of comment spam, you set up a filter. Whenever it catches 2 or more words from the list of keywords and you try to post the comment, it pops up with a box with a picture of builderman that says "Oops! We think your comment is spam. Posting the same comment several times is spam. Posting comments will never give you any free robux, tickets, or any items on ROBLOX. If you see a user spamming, use the Report button to get rid of the spam messages"

The key to taking down that type of spam is to INFORM users that that sort of comment spam doesn't work. It has to be right there on the page, so as soon as they try to post the comment it pops up.

Guys! Let's go on a report abuse raig!

We can report all of them nubs with their spamms.

Oh also, add this to the filter:

if find(comment, "spam clean") and find(comment, string.rep("\n", 4)) then
ban(spamm0r)
end

@xSIXx

Comments in the current state they are in irritate me greatly. Ideally, users would be able to view the comments of a game and know that the thumbnail was misleading, or the game had not been updated.

|what about those copied games on the front page?

I have control over the website, but not the client. Are games being stolen via a website vulnerability? If they are, please let me know and I'll address it immediately.

|what about those games on the front page who's owners give fake thumbnails and updates?

We can make our games sort less naive. Though, I don't actually have an issue with 'fake thumbnails and updates'. This feels more like marketing your game than anything else.

The "come to my place" spam is a lot harder to combat. My suggestion is to create a "posting ban" for minor offenses like spamming a page with links to go to your game that prevents you from posting comments for several days. I don't know how your in-house moderation techniques work.

I also suggest you implement a system for clickable hyperlinks. Add a JS file that detects ROBLOX urls and converts them into special hyperlinks, that, when you mouse over them, display information such as the creator and the type of asset (place, hat, model, etc). It would be much easier for users to identify offsite links if they were the only unclickable links on the site.

I like the idea of Pre.
If the moderator confirms the comment/whatever to be spam(lik CoPy 3 TiMeS fOr StUfF) he should be able to ad it to the filter.
Any new comments containing said spam will be automaticly blocked then.
You might be able to reduce chainmailspam that way.
Also,ban dat spamers...

That's not marketing. That's like saying "Try our new amazing ketchup!" and you try it and it's hot sauce.
