Makes your PC run itself at a certain time?
For example. Since school started and my bus leaves early. I must be at the bus station at 6:30 in the morning, therefore I HAVE to wake up in 5:45.
Now, is there any kind of software out there that can trigger the PC from sleep mode and open a desired file, lets say a song?

There should be a program pre-installed on your computer called "Task Scheduler", use that to play the song.

@Ronald
If my PC is on sleep mode over night, will it power it on in the designated time?

Yes, as long as the "Wake computer" option is checked when scheduling the task.

If you're using Windows, you could write a .VBS or .JS file that would constantly check the current time and then do something based on that time.

I haven't ran JScript or VBScript in awhile due to not being on Windows, but I think VBScript's would be something similar to:

dim wshell = createobject("scripting.filesystemobject")
while not Time="HOUR:MINUTE:SECOND"
wscript.sleep(1000)
wend

wshell.run("wmplayer + " YOURSONG)

Something like that. It'll keep on looping until the time and when it hits that time, the loop will break and open the song file.

I don't think you get can the computer to power itself on, but you could do it remotely with wake on LAN.

He doesn't need to have the computer power itself on. >_< His computer will be in sleep mode, so all he has to do is wake it.

I remember when I used to run Windows, sometimes it would play sound files when it was in sleep mode.

Is it required to even come out of sleepmode to play the files? I haven't used too much of Windows lately, so I don't recall.

The Task Scheduler idea RonaldPaul suggested, since it's a built-in tool, would probably be the best solution, anyways.

You can't make a computer power itself on, no matter how you plan to do it.

Unless you somehow find a way to induce electric current inside the computer remotely, I'm puzzled on how you're going to make it power itself on from a remote source.. not to mention that it would already be impossible from itself since, even if you could induce electric current inside of it, you would need to have electricity in the first place to do so, meaning it can only be done remotely...

Maybe one day we'll be able to somehow magically teleport electricity, but I don't think we can today.

Did you even read his post? "[..] trigger the PC from sleep mode [..]"

@RonaldPaul

Absolutely. I was actually talking about this because someone else (Prehistoricman) mentioned making a computer power up itself while it was off.

If you want to be really fancy you could get a remote server to WOL you. Although that would require some fancy network settings to allow the server to do that without possible compromising your security.

NetDuino. All you'd have to do is split the power wire and solder longer pieces on with a relay on it, then you just turn on the relay to power on. Then just task schedule.

Do you have any experience working with the AtMega32p?

@Ron, Yes, but it uses it's own C based language for control. For the most part you don't even do anything with AtMega32p.

What exactly do you mean? I've had a countless number of people recommend it, my two friends included.

Go to the Arduino site and download the IDE for it, it's a variation of C.

Sorry, didn't realize you were talking about the IC. I actually went and bought a kit that came with an Uno, it has some nice features, but, like I said, you do all the controlling of it with the IDE.

I would rather not use the Arduino. Besides, I have already ordered everything I need to start programming with the AtMega32. What can it not do that the Arduino can do?

The Arduino itself is a nice board that has 14 digital pins, 6 analog pins,and some extra little pins. If you buy the kit I bought, which is sold by MakerShed for like 130 dollars, it comes with a bunch of nice little things for you to start out with.

It worked.
So simple and easy to understand.
Thanks alot Ronald, it was a pleasure waking up the neighborhood with 'I don't want to set the world on fire" by the Ink Spots.
If you don't know the song, it's from Fallout 3.
