Hello programmers! I need an idea from you guys if you have one. That'll be great, thanks!
Anyway, in school today I found out that I have a science fair project to do...Yay..:/ So you had to choose a topic and one of the topics was programming so I chose that. Why? Because I have experience in it as you guys may know me program. So I need a purpose, hypothesis, how to test it and two different things to compare. This is what I'm thinking.
My purpose will be what's the most used language. Why? Because I at least compare two languages to see which language is better. I will do testing. First I will use the two languages I know Lua and Logo. What I'm gonna do is make two different codes in the two different languages. I will make a simple brick generator that generates 1000 bricks in a random place with 20,20,20 postion and/or less. Then, for logo I will do the same thing exept in the graphic form 2D instead of 3D. I will explain what is different in that and why these two different results occured.
I while make more testing for the project but the conclusion is that every language is useful. It just depends on specifically what you need. Logo is the right language for graphics while Lua is the right language for extenstions.
So, what do you think of it? Pretty much, I'm still thinking of the ideas because we are starting soon. The ending product will be in somewhere at October but my science teacher said to start thinking now. What do you guys think? You have an idea? Please tell me! I'm open for ideas for this assignment. But please, if you can't program or only been programming for a couple months don't post here. I need ideas for people that know what they are doing. That'll be great!
Thanks again ROBLOX programmers! ~miz656 |

| If we use lua, we're scripters, not really programmers ^^". And Logo is another scripting language in another game ? I'm not sure to understand your post mainly because I learn english at school, otherwise, I'm french u_u. Anyway, if you want to compare 2 scripting languages, you must know that every language have their specialities. So lua would be better in a context and Logo in another context. Anyway, if you're talking about Lua and not RBX.Lua and if Logo isn't incorpored in another game, why not O.o |

@nairod
Lua is object oriented
Logo is a functional language
But yes I do have to use RBX.Lua with it or else I would have to make objects with C++ or another C language, and I don't know any C languages. |

No! Lua is not directly object oriented. It can *behave* like it's object oriented if you want it to be. |

| In the largest probability, the teacher will know nothing and you could impress her with a simple gun script, go at it. |

| Also, I would compare language's speed, power, flexibility, efficiency, and memory requirements, and do C++ and Java. That way people will realize how much better C++ is than Java while impressing them at the same time. |

* Steals code from free models * * Gets A+ *
I think it is very wise by choosing a topic you're comfortable with, hope it goes well. |

Logo is a programming language for beginners. I'm not fully experienced with programming so that's why I chose it. I'm pretty much get Logo now but still..
Should I just steal a code from a website ^.^? |

| No. How would you feel the rest of your life if you won a science fair because you stole someone else's code? |

You do got a point there.
So then what else do you think I should do? Just tell the two in logo and Lua? |

| Wait, kingkiller, what do you think about this idea? The purpose is what makes two different languages different? That way I can talk about its syntax and multi paradigm. What do you think? |

Wouldn't the audience get bored if you talk about syntax? Imagine having a lecture on someone standing there saying "In Lua, you make strings with quotes or double brackets."
@Des
Would you rather win a science fair stealing code or doing it yourself? And I'm not saying he's winning in the first place. |
