Chapter 1: Introduction
Ohai everybody. As many of you know, I have been a part of the LMaD community off and on for over 2 years now. The people of LMaD, paired with some smart investing skills, has helped me successfully reach the goal of owning some cool items, and having a decent chunk of robux.
On August 17, 2010, I made a guide focused around the craft of dealing, buying, selling, and trading. You can read that guide here:
http://www.roblox.com/Forum/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=31884880
It has been over two years now, and things have changed immensely on ROBLOX. Since that guide was written we have experienced many new limited items, a semi-frozen market, the collapse of ticket value, the increase in sales tax, the collapse of robux value, and the release of the trade system. So it's time for a new guide. This guide assumes you know some things about basic investing, as I will not be explaining common knowledge ideology.
Chapter 2: Robux & Tickets
Let's face facts people. Tickets are essentially garbage now. I recommend you transfer all your tickets to robux, as soon as you make a decent amount of them, and the ratio is favorable.
Robux are quickly diminishing in value, because of the release of the trade system. I must point out, that it is still important to have a nice chunk of robux. I pointed out in my last guide, that having a "base" amount of robux is important. This is a number of robux that you hope to maintain at all time. The importance of robux now-a-days is to sweeten trade deals, or to buy new limiteds.
I will talk about the trade system later, but if you choose to sell an item, make sure you are doing it for profit. Buy low, sell high. It's a very easy concept to understand. Double check your math when you decide to sell an item. Remember, market fee is 30% on clothes and limiteds now.
Chapter 3: Limited Items
As we all know, limited items are the keystone to collecting, obviously. ROBLOX features many different hats, gears, and faces that are "limited", meaning that there are only a certain number of them on the site.
The value of limiteds has gone up immensely with the release of the trade system, because users won't lose 30% of the robux, that they would from selling the item, versus trading it.
There are different values of items, and I will post this link to Lance7's "Tier" system. He has listed the rating of every limited hat on ROBLOX.
http://www.roblox.com/Forum/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=75405025
Just remember this, hats are better than gears, and gears are better than faces.
Chapter 4: Trade System
The trade system was a huge breakthrough in limited item collecting. Users can now trade limited hats, faces, and gears to other users without the fear of being scammed.
The trade system has become a game essentially now. A race to trade up, and get cool new limiteds.
The most important thing to realize is that trading up is always better then trading down. If you are trading down, you are giving up a valuable item, for 2+ items of lesser value. If you continually trade up, you will almost always be profiting.
The better items you have, the better you will do at trading. TRADING IS THE PRESENT AND FUTURE OF LIMITED ITEM COLLECTING. DUMP YOUR ROBUX FOR RARE LIMITED ITEMS. Don't give up all your robux though.
Chapter 5: Overpaying & Underpaying
Underpaying: The act of not offering enough in a trade (+robux) so that the value favors the person sending the trade request.
Overpaying: The act of offering to much in a trade (+robux) so that the value favors the person receiving the trade.
If you are paying in robux, you will always almost have to overpay to get an item, because of the 30% fee. If you are trying to trade up (Trading smaller value items for one larger one) then you will usually have to overpay, to convince the owner of the rarest item to complete the trade.
Chapter 6: Macsing
Although "macsing" as it is called now a days is less common, due to the trade system, it is still possible through the selling of t-shirts. If a deal seems to good to be true, and poses a thread of you losing robux or items, don't take it.
People are very greedy and self-centered now-a-days. If you have a concern or question about an individual, ask LMaD, simply by posting a new thread asking if the person is "legit". That will get you the answer you are looking for.
DON'T MACS. IT'S NOT MORALLY RIGHT. IT WILL DESTROY YOUR REPUTATION.
Chapter 7: Value vs. Demand
This is very simple, if you the limited you are trading for isn't a favorite of yours, and you plan on trading/selling it, you must check the demand and value of that limited.
Let's face facts, some items are overpriced, and won't sell for the lowest current price. An example would be Windforce. As of now, it is at 400,000R$, but no one will buy for that much, most likley. I recommend checking with LMaD before trading, to get an idea of the value of each of the limiteds you are trading.
You must also consider demand. Check LMaD frequently to see what items people are looking for, and which are buzzing/trending.
The balance between value and demand is very fine, and you need to be careful when investing.
Chapter 8: Tips:
-Keep your eyes open for threads that say "SNIPE" or "LPP", if you are quick enough, you can usually get the item being sniped off.
-Overpaying is almost always necessary when paying in robux or trading up.
-Keep some robux for new limiteds.
-Trade up as much as humanly possible.
-Double check your math to see if you are profiting or now on trades.
-Offer what you want to offer, don't let people talk you into adding more.
-Heavily consider the demand vs. value of every item in the trade.
-Trading is the keystone of ROBLOX now. Buy all the items you can get.
-Hats>Gears>Faces
-Always try to maintain a base number of robux, that you feel comfortable. An amount that you desire to have at all times.
Chapter 9: Ending
That's about it everyone. This guide is vague, but that's because every person is different. Everyone has different favorite items, and values robux/hats/gears/faces differently.
If you follow the basics of this, and have a good head on your shoulders, you should be okay, and get some cool collectibles, or make some serious robux. |

@Almagro
It's not really spam. Also, a PA is when you attack someone's character. Inquiring about their trustability when you honestly have no idea is not attacking them. |

| I don't know Almagro. Sometimes I get the impression that people assume it's a PA anytime someone's username is included in the subject thread. |

@wisc And Domino Crown used to be worth only 1 million. Darkheart was considered overpriced at 200k. Red Grind never sold at 50k. |
