Hello Role-play forums! I've started to become very interested in story writing and have always been a fan of Role-playing and such. I have started to write a couple of my own stories (One of which is turning out to be very good). So RP forum, I guess this is myself introducing myself to this forum! I hope to be joining in on many of your Role-plays, maybe even make some of my own (If I feel lazy I will just post some short stories and allow everyone else to RP without me). Before I get started I would like to ask for any tips, helpful advice ...etc... . The only reason I'm finally telling you this is because I haven't really bothered to join in any Role-play, but from now on I should be and like I said, I've become interested in writing stories. That is all I can really say... FOR NOW! |

Cool, we got a new member with some intelligence. I can't really think of any words of wisdom, besides filling out a CS, get some experiance before you make a RP, etc.
Which is pretty much the normal advice. |

Well...
Try to discipline yourself, and be a good RPer, I guess?

| Yes. Please, do not attempt to make an RP until you have sufficient experience. Join a couple of RP's first, and then make one if you feel like you can. Also, you will LEARN to take criticism. Do not think people are being mean all the time. Most of us are trying to correct each other's bad habits/skills. Take advice, and most importantly, have fun roleplaying. |

| Well thank you very much, all of you. From the outside this forum can seem quite daunting but when you get in everyone seems to be very nice individuals with all very unique personalities. Also, thank you for the advice. |

| No problem. We do get occasional trolls here and there, but you'll notice them. Also, a word of advice. Bebithetruffle might be intimidating, but he's probably one of the best critics we have. True, he is really harsh, but it's with good reason. |

| Alright, I understand about being harsh and all the rest of it. I can take criticsm as long as it's constructive criticsm and with reason. I'm willing to do what I can to improve all aspects of my time in this forum. |

-Glossary to my Advice-
Section 1: Grammar & Spelling
Section 2: Type of People Here
Section 3: Basics to Role-Playing
Section 4: Helpful Tips
Section 5: Basics to Story Writing
Section 6: More Tips
Section 7: Anything Else?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Section 1-
Grammar is key in role-playing and story writing, without it you won't get much takers in your roleplays/ stories instead you will get flamer and trolls.
I give this advice to nearly every thread I go to, they always lack these things: Punctuation, Correct Spelling, and Capitalization. Three things that are really important.
My advice for this sections is that you should always use grammar unless you want your thread to fail. Do not over-think it, simply double check for spelling and just use your brain, you seem like a person who can do that. Remember: GRAMMAR GRAMMAR GRAMMAR, I cannot stress this enough.
-Section 2-
There are many types of people, though we are all role-players, or RPers for short. The following people include...
Veterans: Anyone with a high post count is commonly a veteran though not always. Most of these people will be glad to assist you, they know all the tricks of the trade.
Skilled RPers: These people do not need a high post count, they are skilled and they can have ANY amount of posts and that will not change.
Trolls: These people prank and do wild stuff normally causing people to get upset, similar to the flamer but different for one important reason (Explained in Flamers).
Flamers: These people are similar to trolls but they differ due to the fact that trolls are people who do it "normally" as a joke, flamer due things to purposely make someone mad, Such as saying a thread sucks or making fun of someone, trolls make fun too, but most trolls are flamers too that is why there is confusion.
Goody-Goodies: Thought they are only doing what they think is right they are commonly making people upset, I won't point fingers...or...hooves...
Idiots: People who don't use grammar or try at all, they are people who refuse to take advice and continuously spam the forum with garbage. not to be mistaken for trolls or flamers.
Common RPers: These are the everyday people that keep this thread alive.
-Section 3-
Forum roleplay is wildly different from game roleplaying, in roleplay threads we refrain from posting things such as: "-Picks up knife-" YET many of use do this for fun on NON-ROLEPLAYING threads.
We tend to write things like: "I bent over and grabbed the knife off the ground."
A big catch in roleplaying is the fact you don't HAVE to be original it just greatly improves the chance of losing trolls and gaining participators.
-Section 4-
Other than everything else here are some tips I would like to share.
1. You do NOT need a large group to roleplay/ have fun.
2. GRAMMAR (Another reminder.)
3. The occasional mess up is fine just try to refrain from making it a reoccurring incident.
4. NEVER FEED TROLLS/ FLAMERS!
-Section 5-
Story writing is commonly put on the roleplaying forum even though it is "the official" forum for it, most of us are fine with it.
All I really have for this is once again originality and grammar help.
-Section 6-
Tips for writing stories.
1. A short story is more likely to be read than a long story though both are admired/hated equally normally.
2. Keeping No. 1 in mind a longer story is equally appreciated/hated though it is more likely to get responses like "tl;dr" (Too long; Didn't read)
-Sections 7-
Need anymore help, just ask, most of us are glad to help. |

NOTE: I left one thing out.
-A couple more tips-
Character Sheets or (CSes) are a style of format where we reveal our character.
EX:
Character Sheet
Name: Age : Appearance: Clothing: Personality: Bio: -----------------------------
Also, explore other roleplay and participate in them before making your own. |

| Every time a new guy shows up and he doesn't make terrible grammar and spelling errors, my faith in RP rises a bit. |
