you/your parents would be paying MUCH more for gas right now. Paying for more gas = paying less for other things. Entire middle class not buying as much things = worsening economy worsening economy = even LESS money less money = sad you
get over it, people who complain about the US in the middle east. |

Let's also not forget that a large majority of the gas in the European Union also comes from the middle east. |

Then we need to find enough resources to produce said new energy. Say it is electricity. Well, the US is reluctant to mine our OWN coal (such as the 300 years worth in North Dakota), so we would buy from heavy coal producing countries (Mostly in SE Asia and Middle East.) |

Now I'm not going to refute what your post is saying here
But when you say they would pay much more, could you provide evidence or a source? I find it slightly difficult to believe and most people would, too |

But then the managers of the prices would boot up the prices if we didn't get any good news from there about success on downing the terrorism.
But I understand that US doesn't get all of their gas from there.

or that the US is on top of a gigantic oil reserve that's gonna take off once the obama administration clears out |

@Hyphalax
A majority of the oil the US gets is from the Middle East. Very little comes from anywhere else.
@Psycho
Alright, lets say we get pushed out of Middle East. Countries no longer want to sell us oil, but if they do they make us pay more. Let's say price of one barrel of oil was $70 before. Now the price goes up to $80 a barrel. The companies that sell the oil now charge more for it. If your parents go to work everyday in a car they are now paying on average about $6.00+ for a gallon of oil. That means more of their budget goes to buying that. When more of their budget goes to that they buy less consumer goods. When they buy less consumer goods the companies (wal-mart, etc.) make less money. When they make less money they buy less products, in that they ruin other companies. When the other companies fail they lay people off. When they lay people off unemployment goes up. No one is spending money so less money is put into the economy, making that fail. When all that fails you finally end up at my last part, "sad you"
@little
The most common way to make electricity today is coal. It is also the cheapest. |

I know; tariffs and such prevent us on getting most of or oil there. Instead we resource to Canada and Mexico.
But it's a market; oil's and such. If one market gets threatened by such things like what is going on there right now, they'll boost prices. |

@Hypha
The middle east has a lot of oil
We don't get all of it but we do get some
I believe we import 1.3 million barrels from Saudi Arabia every day
We also get imports by the hundred thousands from Iraq, Kuwait, Algeria, and one or two North African countries
We import sufficiently large amounts to at least care what happens with our oil there |

"don't you have to be intelligent to have an intelligent discussion?"
In the case this isn't an insult
Yes, that's a tautology
Besides, this is intelligent by OT's standards |
