Basically, you can become the president of the USA even if 78% of the population vote against you.

We aren't a full democracy; we're a republic. Yes, they are very similar, but there are some important differences.

The US is a republic, but the idea is still that the people choose who leads them fairly. And yes it is very unlikely that some one will will win with only 22% of the votes but there have been cases of the winner not getting a majority, the system has a failure rate of 5%. And that's a big failure rate when the person who wins will be one of the most powerful people in the world.

The main difference between a republic is that candidates use a majority of the votes instead of individuals.
So this video is invalid. |

Democracies and republics aren't mutually exclusive. The USA is both a republic and a democracy.

For a country that forces the idea of being a full democracy where everyone's vote counts down everyone's throat they're not that democratic.
And the Electoral College is a messed up and pointless system at that.

The electoral college was made in order to keep idiots out of the presidency. The popular vote could be misinformed, bribed, etc. It's just another set of checks and balances to keep the country from going under. Nothing is perfect and I'm sure the electoral college could face bias and prejudice too, but they are normally very unbiased and do their job correctly. The American spirit and ideals have kept this country alive for more then a hundred years, showing its resilience.

That's obviously not how it works. Your assumption and example is horribly wrong and uninformed.

The people don't choose who leads them anymore, they choose who does whatever they want. The people need to have power over their leaders. Representatives CANNOT accurately represent the people as it is, they always turn to their own desires. People need to be able to vote representatives out of office and vote down their decisions.
