We should be able to have different climates like Rain and Snow. I mean, we already have fog.
Maybe it could be something we could insert.
Here's an example:
Insert > Object > Climate *Goes into the properties of the climate* Disabled | [] Variant | Rain [V]* Size | 40, 40, 40* Color | Navy Blue Wind Strentgh | None [V]* Dropplets | 12*
Details:
Variant: Variant is the type of thing that would fall. Example: Rain, Sleet, Snow, Hail, Meteors, Etc.
Size: The size of clouds/size of how much of the place would be covered in rain.
Wind Strength: Wind strength would have similar options to the Terrain Water Strength, only there wouldn't be a "Highest". There'd be a None, Low, Medium, or High. Obviously the stronger the wind, the more of a chance you, un-anchored bricks, etc., would fly away/be blown off the map.
Dropplets: The number of rain drops that fall per minute/second. This would be nice for Drizzling.
Side note: I had a choice for variant strength, which would probably be the same as dropplets.
So what do you guys think? Anyone agree? |

| Bull. NOT all of that can be achieved through scripting. Plus, the Admins want a more realistic roblox- and THIS is more realistic. |

Nah. I'd rather they not have this sort of thing. I mean; as is, it is highly Unneeded and has a high chance of lagging. (Like terrain does.)

| Why do people say it's Unneeded? Most of the updates these days aren't necessarily NEEDED (Fog and Terrain for example), they just make ROBLOX a better game, and have nicer features. ROBLOX Leaders such as the admins and moderators actually want a more realistic ROBLOX, laggy or not. And plus, ROBLOX would WORK on the lag. THey have with the terrain. |

"They have with the terrain." Right. Which is why it has gotten more laggy since it was added.

Dear Jennifer, Have a nice day. From, Drockp
I don't like people who try to destroy my forums. Could they be a nice person? Yes.
But this is a good idea. And there's no way on earth I'm letting this die.

@drock
Rain would cause extreme lag. Clouds/weather can be achieved by using the skybox. Completely un-needed in every way. Wind is practically impossible, unless they work on it for a year, when they could be patching exploits. Fog and terrain can be very useful. Fog reduces lag, because you can't see big distant objects, and same with terrain for some people, because allows creativity. No support. |

Bevels are off. As are all materials. Terrain, overall, just lags.

rain: thousands of decals of raindrops falling per second would be laggy. snow: same as rain fog: already a script for that. lag. |

Gosh! What is this- Critic Week? I've never seen so many people Not supporting in my life! This is rediculus! ANd I think this is actually a SEMI-Good idea.
Look you people know that it doesn't have to be BRICKs for rain, right? It could just be like.. decals or something like FIRE or sparkles? |

| Still would create extreme lag. You need to stick decals, fire and sparkles on or into bricks. |

@Drockp
this is S&I, and your idea would cause insane amounts of lag, therefore it is rejected by forumers, and not supported, as i am doing now.
What's with the new guys these days? Do they just expect EVERY idea to get loads of support? |

Allow me to destroy your argument.
1. This can be scripted.
1a. Wind is easy to script. Just alter the strength of the wind, make the strength of the wind semi-random, and turn it on and off at random times. It's as simple as applying a brickforce for a region encompassing the entire place.
1b. Climates are easy to script. Just create two variables, temperature and precipitation, and have it change according to some pattern similar to the seasons or day/night cycle. When temperature reaches a certain point, have it do things, and when precipitation happens, have a function make rain. 1c. Making rain is incredibly simple. There's a tutorial for it in the Roblox Wiki, if I remember correctly.
2. Fog (as well as TimeOfDay) was made because it would be nearly impossible to do so with Lua in a relatively lagless, good-quality manner. This is the sort of thing Java or C++ could do much better than Lua. That's why the developers implemented such details - because they don't really expect kids aged 4-12 to know how to program in Java or C++.
2a. Making fog has been done artificially before. In fact, it was done so in the place Nacht der Untoten. Care to tell me the quality of the fog in that game? You would need millions of bricks in order to artificially create fog of any quality.
2b. The case in made in 2a is not the case with climates and wind. Sure, it may be a hassle to script, but it can be done, and the results would look pretty good. |
