American military advisors arrived in what was then French Indochina beginning in 1950. ___ Truman sent military advisors there. America wasnt really fighting yet, they just gave advice to France. This was a good idea of Truman's to aid an ally with advice instead of military combat.
U.S. involvement escalated in the early 1960s, with troop levels tripling in 1961 and tripling again in 1962. ___ After Kennedy came into office, America actually started some real combat in Vietnam, so blame Kennedy for the loss of troops, he was the real problem.
U.S. combat units were deployed beginning in 1965 ___ Now Lyndon Johnson comes in after Kennedy's assassination and makes US involvement even bigger.
American involvement in the war peaked in 1968, at the time of the Tet Offensive ___ Under Lyndon Johnson, American involvement peaked. This was towards the end of Johnson's presidency.
After this, U.S. ground forces were gradually withdrawn as part of a policy known as Vietnamization. ___ Now Nixon is president, and US forces are starting to leave Vietnam.
U.S. military involvement ended on 15 August 1973 ___ Nixon resigned and Gerald Ford was President. Under him, we left Vietnam.
_________________________________________ What was the point of this? To show that it was Democrats that caused all the American loss of life in Vietnam. Under Republicans, we started to leave Vietnam and it was a Republican who took us completely out of Vietnam.
This was in response to someone who said Nixon caused the Vietnam War.

| Nixon was reasonably liberal in practice, actually. It happens when you have millions of angry college students to appease. |

Hopefully, you didn't mean what your wording implies, which would be to simply disavow the armed forces and let them do as they please.
That would be exciting, to put it lightly. |

@Conservative
The president needs to declare war and needs to end a war in order for any of those two things to happen. I can look at congress if you want.

Interesting, the Democrats controlled the house and Congress the entire duration of the war. So technically, they started and ended the war. However, the war needs to be fully ended by the President, who was a Republican at the time.

| Why do we idealise that it was mostly the presidents fault? Why do we continue to believe that a country is run under one man / woman / it? Why not blame the party along with that president. Seems more logical. :L |

And you're going to give credit to the freaking party instead of the actual people who did these things? Learn2Logic. ___ The President represents his party's standings. The president obviously supported leaving Vietnam (Ford) so yes, I will give credit to the party.

I dont really care if you care about their party or not. I care about their party because I care about what the parties stand for and I want to prove that Republicans arent warlords like people say they are.

Good job getting filtered. ___ I was posting the names of all the people in congress and the senate when they left Vietnam to thank them all. Clearly, some fo the names were inapropriate.

Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr., former United States Ambassador to South Vietnam, led the U.S. delegation. William P. Rogers, United States Secretary of State Tran Van Lam, Minister for Foreign Affairs for the Republic of Vietnam Nguyen Duy Trinh, Minister for Foreign Affairs for The Democratic Republic of Vietnam Nguyen Thi Binh, Minister for Foreign Affairs for The Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam
I thank these people for signing the Paris Peace Accords. The only two Americans were Republicans to sign this. Since I cannot get more specific details on who supported it and who didn't of the two parties, I will thank the Republicans. I dont care if you think my judgment is wrong, it is how I will judge it.
