My proposal is simple. Everyone agree's ROBLOX's security, and API need a fix up. In fact, a lot of ROBLOX should be fixed up. However, ROBLOX admins are careful not to ruin stuff like when they finally ruined loadstring()
My proposal is this: ROBLOX game designs can choose two designs for their games. A more secure, better API, Roblox 2.0, which all new games will be forced to default to, or a legacy mode to run old scripts.
Users should be warned that running in legacy mode will open potential security holes in their game, etc.
In this way, ROBLOX games upgrade (To get new features, etc), running in ROBLOX 2.0. Game design is easier. However, old games can still be played, in legacy mode.
In this way, ROBLOX can become more efficient, while still preserving old games, and functionality, while upgrading to higher levels of Lua, and better sandboxing and security techniques. |

I think ROBLOX will continue to struggle through updates unless something of this nature happens.
My greatest fear is that ROBLOX will limit NBCers to legacy type games. |

No... Some of the roblox funtions that could be accessed using load string and bytecode and some features you could do aren't blocked to protect only your game, but roblox as well. I(earlier) had the roblox game key by latching into a print function on a core script. The game key could be used with LoadAsset to obtain any model/place even if its locked/not public/etcetera....
At a earlier time that one big Roblox RPG that WAS being developed by many people(can't remember name), but they didn't let me help(this was long ago), so I took their game and open sourced it. I did however get banned on that account :(....
Anyways point is, they are blocked for more reasons than to just protect you. |

The point is to make ROBLOX faster, more efficient, etc. The launcher would handle both, then pick a system to run.
While ROBLOX is at it, they could chunk out a lot of junk in the system, useless parts, errors, and basically rebuild the system from scratch for a sandbox design.
It would be cool. |
