Personally; I think C++ should be allowed; but with restrictions similar to what we have placed on Lua.
Why?
Because from what I've heard; C++ is more powerful than Lua.
And from what I've seen of reading over some of it; it actually seems EASIER than Lua. Although that statement is one of opinion; thus I do not think C++ should replace Lua; but I do think it would be a nice alternative to use.
Perhaps adding a script "Type" of "Lua" or "C++" so that users can choose which they want to code in.
I also feel this would allow users to test out their C++ coding before getting thrown out into the cold, dark, mysterious world of official game making.
Heck; this can even offer a whole new breed of game types.

However; again, they would probably have to place some sort of restrictions on it.
Also; I do not know if this is even something we can have properly work in the game system. But I would like to either have the option to code a game in C++; or to have a legitimate reason -Preferably from a Moderator, Developer, or other form of Administrator- of why we do not already do this.

This would require more time that they could be using to improving Lua.

No. Never. C++ is too advanced.

@Speedy; so we limit users simply because some people find C++ to be more advanced than Lua? And because ROBLOX is using a scripting language that they are not commonly updating?

I'd really rather hear a moderators side of why they do not do this; such as if there is a reason involving Installation or some issue like that.

@Rock; what relevance did those 2 statements have?

People would be drawn more towards not scripting, because Lua is already hard enough for new members. Scripting in C++ would require brand new bounds, probably a brand new studio... and then some.

This is simply not needed.

99% of people introduced with C++ in roblox would not take it seriously. This would be complete chaos if it were just added.

I highly doubt it would cause complete chaos if ROBLOX implemented it as a secondary language.

Lua is hard enough?
I did not say "replace Lua with C++.".
I said "Allow use of C++.".

Not needed?
Most of these updates recently are not needed.
2.0 and 3.0 = Not needed.
Various Lua updates that have been made; not needed.
Providing players a Stamper tool; again, not needed.

99% of people?
So you haven't got out of the immature mindset of just blurting out percentiles that you think make something sound completely wrong then?

Sadly; the ROBLOX forums do not allow me to post C++ code bits for some reason.
I don't get a Moderation message; I simply get an Error message.

>I did not say "replace Lua with C++.".

Neither did i. As a second language it would be even worse though, more file size and a different parser.

>Most of these updates recently are not needed.

I'm not saying your wrong, but this is a terrible use of development time.

>immature mindset of just blurting out percentiles

What does that have to do with what i said? Just because i said 99% doesn't mean you can't answer to my post. You're making it sound much worse than it is.

>Sadly; the ROBLOX forums do not allow me to post C++ code bits for some reason.

Because of certain characters in the language that prevent posting maybe? Like the more than or less than symbol, or probably that it has nothing to do with the scripting language implemented into roblox. C++ is completely unfitting for a kids game.

"Neither did i. As a second language it would be even worse though, more file size and a different parser."

You said 'Lua is hard enough' implying that this would make coding any harder.
Which implies thoughts of replacing.

"I'm not saying your wrong, but this is a terrible use of development time."

Most of what ROBLOX has introduced in 2011-2012 has been a horrid use of development that has next to no use. This actually has uses.

"What does that have to do with what i said? Just because i said 99% doesn't mean you can't answer to my post. You're making it sound much worse than it is."

Can you not read? I answered that post in the first sentence.

"Because of certain characters in the language that prevent posting maybe? Like the more than or less than symbol, or probably that it has nothing to do with the scripting language implemented into roblox. C++ is completely unfitting for a kids game."

It uses things I can type on my regular keyboard. It has a similar typing as Lua; being that "<=" and ">=" hold the same meaning of "Less than" and "Greater than"; respectively. It having nothing to do with Lua is no reason to block it. I have seen loads of non-Lua coding languages circling about Scripiting Helpers and Scripters forums.

Support!

@speedy

There are harder-to-learn programming languages out there. I DARE you to learn DarkBASIC without a manual.

@XE8; not pointless.
Having C++ mixed in would allow for simpler coding between keyboard recognition; and quite a few other things.

Craz; so because it is a child's website; we can not input a language that is simpler -Requiring less typing and easier to type- into the site?
Makes sense.

Which is why I said that they would have to implement restrictions onto it; like how they did with Lua.

@XE8; it is.
C++ is easier to understand and it requires less typing.

So because I think something that is supposed to be hard is easy; I'm an idiot?
Makes sense.

I definitely support this! C++ is way more efficient than Lua and making this happen could teach some future game programmers (e.g. me) how to program in the most important programming language. I know some C++ already but I wouldn't mind learning more.

I tried posting the "Hello World!" example, no luck =(

XE8, That's why I left this thread.

Jacob, accept opinions.

Yours isn't the only one that matters, some people despise of the scripting language; just because it's not you doesn't mean everybody else has to suffer.
