During the spring of 1315, an abnormal, unhealthy amount of rain spread over a large percentage of Europe, then it became too cold and plants, animals, and humans got sick, prices skyrocketed, the cost of bread rose by 320%, until peasants could not even get food, eventually, chaos erupted. People abandoned their children for good, some resorted to cannibalism, faith in the economy and church plummeted so they could not keep the citizens under control, but the main problem was starvation. This went on from 1315 to 1317, but with long lasting effects that did not fully end until 1322, it also may have inspired the popular fairy tale, Hansel and Gretel. This chain of events was later named the Great Famine of Europe.
... I learn things I should not. And then I tell those things to you people. |
