Any reason? Anyone remember stickmasterlukes game where it was all foggy and it played like 10 differant songs. And roblox even had a jukebox in the toolbox.
I heard that aeacus found a way to upload malicious stuff with sound uploading and then told the admins to disable sound uploading.
But why was the service removed from online games? I just don't understand :\ |

Yeah, that's why.
Music with swears and drugs and stuff doesn't exactly appeal to little kids' parents. |

| There were still songs with swear words back then. And inevitably someone will upload an audio clip of them screaming or something. |

| The problem is that the _majority of_ songs that people would want to upload probably have some degree of content that would be unacceptable. A lot of popular music has themes that were inappropriate for the site audience at that time. |

And nobody has mentioned copyright yet?
Although, it doesn't seem like Roblox cares, there's a lot of copyrighted stuff in the Catalog and a lot of games are intellectual property ripoffs one way or another... |

| The user-generated content shield works wonders for the copyright issue. They only have to remove something if it is reported by the company that they didn't give permission. The curse words and other things that could be uploaded is much more likely the reason. |

Copyright doesn't apply to a site's users, but only the company itself.
This is what SOPA and ACTA and all those incredibly stupid bills were trying to do. They were trying to make it so if one person uploaded bad content, the whole entire site could be shut down.
So technically we can upload pictures, models, anything, really, that's protected by copyright. Only if ROBLOX was contacted by a company that held a copyright would it remove the offending item.
But yeah, stravant was right on the dot. You can't host a kids site and explicit music at the same time. It just doesn't work that way.
Although, I fail to see why the music couldn't be moderated like everything else? You could have a song limit so mods wouldn't have to listen to 30 minute songs. Stravant, can you explain why they made that decision back then? |

Think about the video moderation system.

"You could have a song limit so mods wouldn't have to listen to 30 minute songs"
Even if a song is only a couple of minutes long it's still _orders of magnitude_ more difficult to moderate than images.
With images a couple dozen can be thrown up in front of the mod at once, and they can quickly scan through them in a couple of seconds. With sounds they have to listen to each clip individually, many of them reasonably long.
So it could very well take 100x longer on average to moderate each sound asset compared to image assets.
One reasonable solution would be to make it cost money to upload sounds, with the cost proportional to the length of the sound, to pay for the higher moderation cost, but that's a lot of work to implement. |

Money as in Robux/Tix or actual dollars?
Although I think this, as with keyboard/mouse access, should be implemented in the game. Because ROBLOX is more of a game maker rather than an actual game to me. And I think the fundamental part of any game is this:
1) Graphics 2) Sound 3) Controls
If we implement these, we can start using ROBLOX more as an actual platform rather than what it is today. |

@roblox
As far as I know, you need to have a tool selected in order to track and react to key presses. Having access to that, it would be really easy to set keybinds, as all you would need would be a way to change what keys trigger things. |

I know how to make it faster to moderate music. Let the moderation system play the song at any given speed for the moderator. So if he/she can hear the song clearly at 2-4 times the speed, great! One minute songs can be moderated at or under 30 seconds.
I don't think many would mind waiting a week for their song to get posted to be anyway. At least I wouldn't. |

*Creates sound that is curse word backwards* *Mods accept it thinking it's garbled words* *Inserts in game and plays backwards* |

| Neither would I. But what I'm trying to get at here is that you could upload theme songs, just regular songs, etc. to give your place more variety. |

| It would be far more reasonable for the admins to just upload sounds upon requests from users, which they've mentioned they might do on several occasions but never actually did anything towards. |
