This place has really lost its appeal to me, not because I've grown out of it, but because there is a severe lacking of intelligent discussion here. Why have we grown out of the times where this was truly a clubhouse filled with people who understood Lua and could then discuss things that matter to budding programmers? Now, I see half a page or more of admin/help/requests/etc., another 25% going into "regular" diary entries (most of which **don't even know Lua**, this is my biggest WTF moment with this subforum) and a little bit going into random C#,C++,C, Java, ASM, h4xy questions that would be better answered on Stack Overflow.
So why can't we regain control of this subforum?? I'm talking to the original regulars, the ones that have proven they can script, and can use Lua better than 99% of people making games on Roblox right now. We used to have an unspoken way of determining who was allowed to post slightly off topic by becoming what we have come to know as "the regulars". This can include some diary entries, some "look what I made; it's neat" threads, and some tech demos like back in the day of Oysi. This means Sorcus can post his demos of whatever he likes, Oysi can show us something new and cool, Arceus can show off a new way of doing something with metatables, etc. So why are we allowing EVERYONE to post WHATEVER they want??? If you are posting about random crap on this subforum and you haven't proven you know anything about what this subforum was made for (namely lua), *you should expect to be kicked out with GOBWEY's*.
Proposed rules (since the unspoken ones have failed us...): 1. Help requests should be redirected to Scripting Helpers or LuaLearners/wiki/SHG/etc. AND be reported. 2. Trolls should be reported, nothing else. No posting on them; that only feeds them and bumps their posts 3. Bump something that promotes useful discussion even if you don't fully grasp it. Someone else may, and they should see it too. 4. Avoid letting off topic threads snowball to multiple pages of flame wars and trolling. We get it; you're a troll. Yes, I'm guilty of this too, hence reform. 5. Contribute in discussions of _advanced Lua and related programming_. This really shouldn't include help for your C++ code. It belongs on a different site. Use better judgement on what's good and what's not. 6. If someone proves to the community that they: A) can use Lua well, and B) speak English properly let them in on the benefits of regularity. Give them a few GOOD threads (like legitimate, discussion promoting threads) and a handful of positive, constructive posts. 7. Don't make trolls feel welcome. If they don't contribute any time, MAKE THEM FEEL THE PAIN FOR SMEARING OUR SUBFORUM WITH FILTH. Make them *prove* they know what they're doing. 8. Allow regulars to show off something they've been working on. They've earned it, and if they're a regular it's usually pretty neat and discussion invoking. Diary entries can be questionable... Judgement is huge here too. 9. Discourage several threads within an hour. Let's condense to one thread; we have a slow subforum anyway and things stay on the front page for over 6 hours.
And above all else: USE YOUR JUDGEMENT TO DECIDE WHAT PROMOTES DISCUSSION AND FEEDBACK AND WHAT PROMOTES SPAM AND COMPLETE OFF TOPIC.
Yes, I have definitely broken these guidelines but these are what I feel will help bring this subforum back to it's "forum"er glory (ololol) and bring back something intriguing and thought provoking. Maybe it's just summer; we'll see. Hopefully change is coming.

| Rule 10: No thread shall be bumped more than once per hour. More than that = report. This forum moves VERY slowly. No more than 5 bumps in a row by one user; that shows that no discussion is being generated and it should die. |

@Oysi
I remember back in 2008 when I was a newb, I would always get good help from people in-game. Now, however, people just call me a noob then beg for my hats. This place has gone down hill q_q. |

bool = Instance.new("BoolValue", workspace) bool.Name = "BooleanValue" bool.Value = false table = {"Hello," , "World!"} function printMessage() string = "" for i = 1, #table do string = string.. table[i].. " " end return string end bool.Changed:connect(function() rout = coroutine.wrap(printMessage) msg = rout() wait() print(msg) end) bool.Value = true
Is that better? (hint: no) |

Much easier solution: Devs fix my mod powers so I can lock / move / delete stuff again. |

I rarely ever post here anymore, and I don't do anything enough to interact with the community at all.
Also, stravant: "Vegeta, what's his power level?!" "IT'S... 0..." |

"Also this hacking and scripting stuff, just make Roblox community down hill".
I say the devs stop any scripts from running running for this guy's Roblox Player. |
