But I was taught division before multiplication. |

It doesn't matter whether you do division or multiplication first. If you have to pick between the 2, start on the left.

Wrong. They are equal. You can do either first and it should give the same answer.
1/2*3*5/7*9 = 9.6428571 3*5/7*9*1/2 = 9.6428571 |

BIDMAS Very similar, but it's "brackets, indicies", not "parenthesis, exponents" |
