A game I'm currently working on, that I am trying to think up a legit, and original name for. Anyways, this is, in a nutshell, a "Zombie Apocalypse" type game. However it is also slightly different, in that it is not in a large city or port area, but rather in a small town that has, at most, a lake and some streams. It will contain a background story of a realistic way for a "Zombie Apocalypse" to actually occur, and many other qualities to have it more realistic.
Basic information: Honestly, I was inspired by Gusmanak's "Apocalypse Rising" to create this. I mean, seriously, that is the best game of the genre that I have ever played. But I want to make my own that creates a more... "Real" situation for it's occurrence. Weapons varying from Pipes, Boards, and Chains, to Firearms, Swords and Explosives. Food items will very from Wild Carrot, to Steaks and oven-baked Pizzas Drink will vary from muddy water to Soda. There will ~>Not<~ be regening items of Food, Drink, Ammo and Weapons; unlike AR. There will be a limited supply of pre-made food items, requiring one to look for more, and to learn how to make their own food, which will use realistic processes. All in all; I am trying to "Recreate" a real-world Zombie Apocalypse into a game set in a small town for your, and my, enjoyment.
As is, Building of the setting and scripting will be done by me, Building of the vehicles is primarily done by Zurg59. Help is welcome, but not requested.
Realistic theory behind infection; A parasite that takes over the motor skills of a target; and primarily inhabits the Mouth. (Plaque-generating bacteria mutation, possibly?) Said parasite has a 8-Month "Incubation" period, in which it does not take over anything.(Some parasites/Viruses have 12 YEAR incubation periods, just fyi.) Said parasite would be spread by such things as sharing food with ones kids, or being bitten by an infected Cat or Dog or some other animal. Surely, a parasite that is almost undetectable without regular checkups to a local Dentist, Orthodontist or Doctor. And with that 8-month incubation period, quite a few people would be infected before they even knew it existed. And since it inhabits the mouth; guess how it spreads after taking over the motor skills. It bites! Anyways; enough of my off-topic Zombie Apoc. theory.
Suggestions or the like, anyone? I'll probably keep bumping this thread for about 2 weeks or so at random intervals. Anyways; this is, in short, hoped to also be a way of virtual "Preparation". I plan on also having a building and/or materials randomly catch on fire every "math.random(60,2000)" seconds. They will run a risk of it, anyways. I'll have the game generate a brick in a random area that is flaming, and leave it there for.. oh... I dunno, 25 seconds, and then place it into Lighting or Debris, or something for short-term storage, then repeat.

This is the most excellent idea I've ever seen in my entire life. lol Yes I want you to do this, but I'm not sure if I've got any suggestions... Maybe make a randomly generated map? That would be badout. -=Robo=- |

I'm trying to keep it in a single map. I'm basing -some- of the game on my own area of residence. Heck, I plan on having a School there, and I am using my local high-schools blueprints to design it. But, in a way of something randomly generated, perhaps the placement of resources randomly chosen when the game starts?

That could work. So you're making a city map? That would make a lot of sense, I like apocalypse rising, but I don't like the setting. -=Robo=- |

Not a city; a small town. Highest the building will get is 3-4 stories; and that's something like the Courthouses or Banks.

Also, most, if not all, buildings will have no windows what-so-ever for a time. As is, I'm more worried about getting the basic framework than I am all the minor details. I want to get it playable as soon as possible, then tidy it up and add the details later on.

Have some sort of Subway or underground to the map. With the right fog, you could turn it into the next big Zombie Apoccalypse.
Also, add the rain gui where it looks like its raining. |

2 things left to complete the park; Swingset and those little plastic-wood kiddie castles with things like tic-tac-toe boards and the like on them.

| For the swing set you should have 1 rocking back n fourth, or more scarier effect. |

Maybe. But what I'm tying to do with this is not what most people think and see when they think "Zombie Apocalypse" and cars are flipped and exploded and etc. I am trying to make it into a state of just a number of days after an outbreak. When damages are still majorly minor, and resources like Milk have a much higher chance of not being spoiled and still being edible.

Finished up the plastic-wood castle. I think it turned out quite nice, personally. Though... there are a few... color tweaks I think I may need to do. Lime/Neon green on Reddish brown is a bit... er.... Out of place.

The non-regening items won't be good.
Once they run out of items, you will be forced to leave. |

It's working differently than what you think, or at least what I think you are thinking. What I mean, is there will be a limited supply of pre-made items. (Ammo, Milk in stores; etc.) but there will still be ways to create them. For example, there will be limitless "Storage points" of raw materials like Oil, Wheat, Sulfur, Charcoal. Those sorts of things will be in large piles or areas to represent there being more there than is needed. As an example; you go to a recently re-stocked Wal-Mart area for Milk, and you usually see more than you could drink in months. It sorta represents that type of situation to have a limitless key resource, but pre-made things like a "Jug of Milk" from a store, those would not regen. Instead, a person would have to find things like Cows, and milk them to get milk as the supplies start coming low.

I used a horrible example. Re phrasal time. A large corn field. Those generally look limitless for food. And thus, those would have a limitless supply in-game.

| If this works out as the way youintend for it, you may be looking a first page game for a very long time. |

I hope so, seems like most of the front page games (I haven't looked for a # of months though...) are FM'd, full of copyrighted material, or lagged to the point that I can't play them even with settings on 1.

Lol. Anyways, I just need to get a swingset made, and then the park area is done. Also; just a bit of info into it, this will be made assuming the Plumbing and Electrical power has not yet failed. I'm thinking of making a script so that after... say... 30 in-game days, the Electrical and Water supplies crash completely. I've never been inside a electric/water company, but I assume the distribution is automated. You pay monthly bills, which is where the 30 days comes in. Also, I'll probably have 10 minutes to equal 1 day, or somewhere around there. Giving one 300 minutes (5 hours) of gameplay with both water and electricity working. What I advise most to do, is stock up on resources like Steel, Cloth, and probably Charcoal and Oil in the start of the game. As they will have a wide variety and very important uses.

Very much so. I probably need to go for a short walk outside here in a few to the local church. I forgot what it looked like, and I'm using parts of my home town to design the game. I failed at making a "custom" church; it looks more like a gigantic white bank, with purple floors and a golden cross half the size of an electric pole at the top. Lol. I should probably take a camera and get a picture as well, but mines out of batteries, so I'll have to rush home and make it before my memory of it runs out. ... Actually, I could probably go to the city site and find a picture of it. Gonna check that first.
