Some review of the projects between the 1930's-1940's France to produce a well armed vehicle.
-INTRO-
The BDR G1B heavy was suggested and designed by the Baudet-Donon-Roussel company but was never used due to heavy weight and costly maintenance. The idea was meant to replace the thickly armored Char B1.
-DESIGN- The tank idea was canceled and parts of the idea were made into the G1B medium tank. Designed as a medium cavalry tank to replace the weak D1 tank, but as majorly advanced at the time, the D1 still had weak turret armor and proved it should be replaced. After the G1B was made, it also proved costly due to maintenance and breakdowns. After that, it was made into the AMX 40 light tank, a tank based of a half track propulsion system but was made into a tracked vehicle. The idea was delayed due to its weak gun. Overall, these tanks proved they needed some fixing up, but the G1B heavy tank proved the best due to it's respectable range of fire and over powered gun.
-PROJECT CLOSES- The AMX 40 was later replaced with the H35 and SOMAU S35, a fast, agile, heavy armored armed vehicle. The SOMAU S35 proved this is what the French needed. After the invasion of France, the B1 and S35 and D1 were stolen by the axis and used as training vehicles for armored divisions. The B1 actually proved a strong vehicle after some" fixing-upping" from the axis. The G1B was a good idea, but proved costly. Luckily, they were saved the the S35.
-AFTERMATH- The project slowly fizzled away after the invasion of France and was forgotten and never spoken of ever again.

| If you gave the Germans the tanks the french had, they would have won the battle of France in half the time. |

| Yes. Definitively, although the Char B1 could easily cope with the tanks Germans deployed during the beginning of the war, although one of the many MBT's was the B1 and it was very slow. Making it vulnerable to flanking maneuvers from the German's "Lighting War". |

| The Char was the only French tank that could take on the German tanks head on. France sucks. |

What Char? The word "Char" often referred to French heavy tanks. |
