For only xCarlyGirlx, John826, and myself.

No CS required - Just begin with a Character Paragraph, as done with FBITE.

Seeing as there's no story, just follow my lead.

However, I'll let you know - This is fantasy/SciFi, takes place in the modern world, and we should all have jobs that we hate and some interesting quality to our personality.

Go on then, POST!

WAITWAITWAIT

One more thing.

Anyone who is not xCarlyGirlx, John826, or me - Don't post.

If you do, you may be reported.

Chicago - 1948

A young Indian woman sits by a locked blue door, dressed in blue scrubs. She knows of the pain she should be feeling, seeing as of the large burn across her left arm and leg, but is only numb.
Fearful, she turns to her side - screams for help. But - No one is left.

After what feels like hours, another woman walks up. She, too, is Indian. Seemingly unaware of the surrounding flames, aswell as untouched by them, she sings an old Hindu lullaby.

Finally, she turns and sees the young woman laying there, and walks over. She smiles and sits down beside her.

"He - Hello." The girl says.

The woman obviously does not understand.

After pausing for a moment, she continues to sing.

Crackling laughs of waves of flame, closer they get to the two women. Nothing they can do will save them. Surely, they will die there.

Calmly, the older woman stands and holds one hand to her heart, and the other to the door. The copper handle glimmers in the light of the flame.

In the background, glass explodes and shatters, people scream - but she only stands there, closes her eyes, and accepts the flames that consume her seconds later.

Hours later, the entire hospital is ash. All that survived, shards of glass, bits of concrete, and that light blue door with the copper handle.

[ NOW we start - September 11, 2012. ]

I sat, my chin in my hand with my elbow propped on the counter. Vanessa swept around the tables again - I couldn't imagine what for. The only reason to sweep would to be to rid the floor of dust, we hadn't had a customer all day. I leaned back in my chair, reaching for my book again. I set it down in my lap, looking at the empty shop in despair. The lights flickered, barely giving any light at all, and the florescent 'Open' sign that hung outside was long dead.

The shop was family owned, I couldn't leave it even though I desperately wanted to. My mother insisted on keeping family close, and knew that Vanessa and I would leave this town and find a better job in a heartbeat if we weren't guilt-stuck into a job at 'Lucky Cup'. Soon we would have to leave though, mother couldn't keep us in a job that was barely paying.

The shop thrived tremendously at one point, but business slowed down as people no longer had time to just sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee or pastry. Everyone was on the go and in a rush.

I sighed quietly, looking down and thumbing through my book once more.

A quick flip through her file, and it was already obvious she was - as pallidly put - special.

Not only was she bright, but her family had a history with the warehouse.

She is what we need.

It's time that we - /I/ - go fetch her.
And no better timing, seeing as she has no other current interests, aside from the obvious.

At this, I jump from my desk, and leave. I had work to do.
But, not alone. No longer.

walked down the dying streets, not to many people were around right now. I passed an old place called "The Lucky Cup." My grandparents told me about that place once, they said it was a really good place, but to me the place looked deader then my grandparents... how ironic. Maybe I could check it out, I need some coffee anyway. I look through the window and see a person inside, I can also see my reflection, my hair is cut short, my black t-shirt shows a little bit of a scar on my left arm, and jeans are dusted and worn. I walk to the door of the lucky cup, and walk in, by how dead the place was I thought the girl inside might have been cleaning up to close, or closing it for good.

[Turns out I don't have to leave. ^-^]

Vanessa made a tiny squeal as someone walked through the door, and fled towards the back. She was always so shy, which is why she was usually in the kitchen, so she didn't have to face any of the customers.

I set my book down, offering a warm smile. "Hello sir. What may we offer you today?"

"A cup of coffee, and do you have sandwiches?"

I nodded at Vanessa as she started the coffee pot - something we had neglected to do until now as we assumed we would have no customers for the day. I pointed up at the menu that hung above the counter on a large board, indicating for him to read that we didn't serve sandwiches.. Upon looking up, I noticed that the menu had grown dust over it, and was hardly legible.

"We have cinnamon buns, fruit pies, and bagles." I said, sticking a pencil behind my ear.

[ No one's walked in, yet. ]

I walk up to the door, taking a moment to ponder the possible IQ of the man with his face on the window, then walk in.

'Hello.' I say immediately, carefully taking in the place, absorbing small bits of information.

'Interesting little - uh - place you've got, here.'

"Ill have a cinnamon bun then."
I always feel like a child when ordering sweets, but I liked it, feeling like a kid again, and it the sweet stuff was good to.

I looked at the man who just walked in. He seemed odd to say the least, he was overlooking the shop as if he were to remember every detail. I frowned, was this the health inspector?

I held myself proudly. Even if he was, we had nothing to worry about. This place was in good condition. My smile slid slightly when I remembered how dusty the menu board was, and I couldn't imagine how messy the kitchen was - Vanessa wasn't very keen to keeping her work space tidy.

I nervously tugged at the pencil behind my ear, tearing my gaze from the man who had just entered to the man at the counter. I smiled warmly, as I prefered the cinnamon buns to everything else we served.

"That will be $4.30." I said instinctively, having memorized the prices of all the items long ago. "You may take any seat you like." I say, guesturing to the booths and tables - I always had to remind the customers to take their own seats. For some reason, they always expected a waitress to lead them to a table when it was blantantly obvious which tables were occupied and which weren't.

I walk up to the counter, taking a glance through the glass at all of their deserts, and a few chilled lunches.

"Do you have anything that won't give me a heart attack?"

I look up with a smile, but she seams not to have noticed. Helping the man from the window fufil his insulin-inducing fructose addiction.

I go back to closely investigating a crack on the tiled floor.

I reach into my pocket and hand her a 10$ bill, its was smallest bill I had at the moment.
"Thanks, and keep the change."
I go and sit down in a booth.

"Thank you." I say, taking the bill with a smile.

Vanessa hands me a steaming cup of coffee and a cinnamon bun through the window. "Here." She says shyly.

I looked down at the cinnamon bun, chuckling slightly at the terrible icing job she had done. She had certainly taken the time to make sure all of the cinnamon bun was iced. I put a cup of cream and sugar on a plate and walk over to the man in the booth.

I set the bun and the cup down, setting the cream and sugar in the middle of the table. "Well hon, I hope you like your pastries sweet and your coffee strong." I said with a sheepish grin. "If you need anything else, don't be afraid to call."

I walked back to the counter, placing the platter on the sill of the window to the kitchen. "How may I help you sir?" I ask the gentleman who had been waiting for quite a while.

Now Im wondering why this place is so dead, the waitress is friendly and lively, and who doesn't like strong coffee and sweet cinnamon buns? I throw those thoughts aside for a moment and begin and eating and drinking.

"I have been inquiring to my higher authority and you -Invidia, is it?- seem to shine in your file."

"There is a void in my working staff, and I have a preposal for you to make."

I realise, suddenly.

"Oh - You meant an order? I'll have a coffee. Straight, black."

I quickly take a seat at a nearby round table with two metal-wire chairs.

I open my mouth, about to tell him the cost, but he quickly sat down. Oh well, free of charge. The gentleman before him gave a tip large enough to cover the coffee, and then some.

I tapped the sill to get Vanessa's attention. What was that man talking about? My file? Did he mean like a resume? I hadn't tried to apply anywhere lately. And how did he know my name? I glanced down at my name tag that was pinned to my hip - there was no way he could have seen it when I was behind the counter.

"Invi. Invi!" Vanessa shook my shoulder gently. I blinked, startled out of my train of thought. "Oh, um - cup of coffee. Black." A steaming cup of coffee slid out quickly.

I grabbed another cup of sugar and cream and placed them all on a platter. I knew that he probably wouldn't need them, but it was safe to grab them anyways. People came in here all the time, ordering black coffee only to find out they didn't like how strongly it was brewed. Setting these out for them saved them the hassle of asking for them later.

I set the coffee down in front of the man as well as the cups of cream and sugar. "There you go, dear. If you need anything else, don't be shy." I managed a bright smile.
