| What is it I should get? I've never used or programmed on of them before, but I've watched youtube videos and I know that they are extremely cool. What would you get? What can you do with the kit you would get? And most importantly, what's the approximate cost of what you would get? Thanks in return. |

| You can create your own RC devices :D. I have never used one but I'm considering to buy the Arduino Uno, it costs about 25$ and I have read that its pretty easy to use, plus there are a lot of tutorials. |

I've decided that I really want one of these. I need to think of something to do with it though. Here's some thoughts:
LED cube (those look totally awesome) make your room ossum (open the window blinds, turn on the lights, adjust air conditioning, open the door, etc. by clapping or voice command or something [Google "BRAD"]) something with MIDI sounds some cool door lock thing

all ive done is make an LED flash faster and faster and im already in love and i've deicded that i want to be an electrical engineer lol
i just hate this language. it makes me wish for an arduino for a C-based language :3 |

@nate
my dad had 2 BASIC stamps. using them. i would prefer an arduino because it's language is better, but all in all they're the same thing |

But Arduino IS a C-based language ._. |

| Make an inverted pendulum w/ a PID controller. Pretty easy, just need a motor+controller, pot, batteries, and the rest could be made out of wood. |

That's why you should get a Cypress microcontroller instead. They use C or Assembly. |

He wasn't asking for an alternative to Arduino so that he could use C, he was asking for an Arduino so that he could use a C-based language, because Arduino is a C-based language (Arduino is the name of the board, development environment, and language!). |

i made my first thing without looking at the book. its a code thingy. you press the buttons in the right order. buttons make beeping sounds. if you get the code wrong, the light blinks red and makes an alarm sound. if you get it right, it turns green and gives you a good beep sound.
pics or it didnt happen: imgur

| You can create even a tablet with an arduino theoretically. |

"You can create even a tablet with an arduino theoretically."
Not really. The hardware on the Arduino is too limited for that, 16MHz, 2kb of RAM, and 32kb of program space is far too limited to be able to interface with all the hardware required for a tablet. The Mega might provide enough program space, but 4kb of RAM still isn't enough. Sure, you can hook several Megas together and use each for a different purpose (one handles the graphic driver, another handles input, another handles the OS, etc), but even then you'll have difficulty fitting it within the small space because you have to write code to interface between the Arduinos. At that point, you're better off getting a more powerful microprocessor than an AVR. |

| That's why I said, 'theoretically'. You can use SD card memory extensions anyways. =/ |

It still isn't theoretically. I don't think that word means what you think it means. A definition of it is "according to the assumed facts." The facts here are that the Arduino is not powerful enough to run the hardware and software for a tablet. We are given those facts, and so it is not theoretically possible.
"You can use SD card memory extensions anyways. =/"
That wouldn't help. You can't load external programs on the Arduino, it will only execute what is stored in its flash memory. You can't use it as RAM either because you'd just run into a load of problems, which I know from personal experience. |

| @Poke, I was talking about external hardware capability, you might be able to create an extremely buggy slow tablet, but that's about it. =/ |
